5 of the top 7 individual girls are graduating. Dailey and Combe are the ones who will be back next year.
That was an insane senior class
One boy who will be returning is Conor Lott, winner of the almost-forgotten D1 Boys race. Only a Jr. 15:05 is a good launch point for next year. Possible top returning boy?
Since he goes to Clovis North, trains at Woodward all the time.
Yeah Lott is definitely a contender in the state next year but can’t forget Zavaleta though. He was the top junior at Clovis. Fernandez from Matilda Torres was the fastest junior of the day by .5 seconds. His team can autoqualify for NXN if all goes well. Nguyen from Beckman can be up there if healthy. And there are also some Jesuit guys that can be up there.
That’s terrible. I’m sorry that happened. From the outside it’s not a good look for the officials to make a call-give a warning-and then reverse the decision right on the starting line because a competing school coach gets involved. I have never seen an outright DQ in xc for a false start. Sad that other coaches can’t be a little more human and think about destroying a poor kids last race in HS. Not the kind of coach I would want for my kid. If the talk I heard is correct it’s even more of a bad look. Seems there were some personal factors involved.
I can't believe that a video of the false start doesn't exist. That would help all of us decide if the kid is a blatant cheater, or the officials are incompetent. Either possibility seems credible to me, without further evidence.
To be clear: I’m not saying he didn’t false start. The officials issued a warning and the race was set to start again and at that time the opposing coach demanded the officials DQ. That is what seems egregious. The officials made their call and reversed it based on a coach insisting that they had to. Also in another race there were false starts that only received warnings. It’s inconsistent at best and targeted and intentional at worst.
That would help all of us decide if the kid is a blatant cheater
Nobody in a 5k is going to try and cheat by jumping the start, and I don't really believe anybody thinks hes a blatant cheater. At most his nerves got the better of him, and whether the rules say it or not, an automatic disqualification seems like a stupid punishment. The real question to be answered from the video is did the official reverse his decision at the discretion of another coach. Nothing to be done about it now and it sucks for the kid, but in the future maybe get another official.
Although in my experience, every track or xc official somehow manages to find themselves running meets despite seemingly hating actually running the meet. None of them ever seem happy.

looking back I don't get why D1 is the least competitive division individually and team wise? It was the same last year too. Wouldn't they have the most talent individually and team wise?

how is it possible for it be by far the least competitive boys division individually and team wise?
What teams do you guys think will make NXN in 2024 out of California?
What about individuals?
Especially regarding NORTHERN California.
Not sure if this has been mentioned yet but there were 60 girls that ran under 18 at the state meet in total. Surely that has to be by far the most ever, right? The last few years had around 30 at most.
Edit: 2024 had 60, 2014 had 16, 2004 had 5, and 1994 had 1.

the d1 boys race simply went out too slow and this just caused the whole race to be slow as well. With a faster first mile the results would have been much different
GF ran in the final race of that day. It was much warmer out. He ran alone. Nobody pushed him. Sorry brozzie but that's legendary.
Then take into account his track double in summer Fresno heat. Had the 1600m trials Friday then the double Saturday. Brozzie avoided TF meet.
German did not run his ridiculous double in Fresno that year. In 2008, the CIF Track state meet was held at Cerritos College. That day was incredible and I was fortunate enough to see both German, Christine Babcock, and the equally amazing duel between Jordan Hasay and Laurynee Chetelat in the 3200 with my team.
unfortunately, menlo doesn't have any experience in large scale races with lots of people. They haven't learned how to race for place. That is what you are racing for not time at nxn.

They did race at Clovis. Lots of good teams in this meet. They didn’t do their best there but their #4 was missing and their #5 had an off race

Bro, what are you talking about? Is this a troll post? First of all, they literally raced at NON, Woodbridge, the Clovis Sweepstakes race, and New Balance Nationals Indoor. Second of all, even if they haven't raced at large scale races with lots of people, that won't matter for NXN because NXN is a comically small meet compared to other meets, with only 200 runners. Their states race has the same amount of runners they will race against at NXN. And on top of all that, Menlo has already shown that they are able to perform for place by just showing up and racing their best on race day and it paid off for them in the CA merge.

NXN has 22 teams + 10 (5 people individual runner teams) = 32. Very similar to woodbridge but those 32 teams are the fastest teams in the nation. It is a very large competitive meet unlike anything we see anywhere else. Very different than what menlo has experience with.
Yeah I will say Menlo should know how different NXN really is. I'm sure they aren't stupid, they can and will figure it out. But NXN is insanely deep and it's really not a great course for moving up throughout the race. If you get out bad it can derail everything. It is completely different than Woodbridge, Clovis, or a D5 state championship. But it's only an issue if you ignore it, and I'm sure they'll address it as a team and figure it out.
