No, this is a very complex social issue. Although your post is not wrong, your "analysis" is a severe over simplification. Your dismissal of agips excellent post which was more in depth than yours was wrong.
But even agips posts doesn't address the underlting dynamics that brought such a substantial portion of our population to embrace lies and relish the negativity expressed by trump.
I don't have an answer, but this is a severe societal downturn.

While not explained or defended, and lists of words are easy to make, nonetheless, that's probably a quite good start at describing the various motivations of Trumperism. Is the list of main motivations for the support of past dictators much longer (or different) than that?
About downturn, I guess it depends on how you define it. What I think that we know is that neither brains nor our societal fabric could have possibly changed a lot between later 2015 and now, or a few years ago. Trump quite obviously brought out something that was LATENT in a big chunk of Americans all along.
Amazingly, it was no doubt there when Nixon was in office. And yet it didn't come out. It was largely accepted that he done wrong. Trump does orders of magnitude worse, and is cheered. The power of one bad, INCREDIBLY flawed individual. Incredible. Americans, and humans, have a really, really long way to go...... Before Trump, I thought we were closer. Nope.
