Sorry to see Coach Stevens leave UNT, he's a good one.
Anxious to see who UNT picks up. It could be a great situation. Football success really energized the athletic department and school this Fall. Nice facilities, great medical support, great academic support and solid foundation of runners both men and women.
A lot of programs are trying to purposely hire women coaches but not many women want to coach. Also, this seems to just me a distance/XC issue.
football teams don’t hire women coaches that’s not a problem since the argument would be women don’t play football. So If it’s about the athletes gender then each program should have a men’s coach and a women’s coach like what you see at Oklahoma, again this just seems to be a distance/XC issue.
I don’t think it’s fair to hold positions for genders if it’s not going to be recognized on both ends, meaning women shouldn’t coach male athletes. Looking to hire a woman only for their gender is going to blow up in a lot of people’s faces so hopefully it becomes a dying trend. Unless you always hire a male to coach the men’s team then that’s fine.
I don't blame women for the hiring practices of these institutions since it's not their fault of course but I've been told on a few jobs that I've applied for that the plan/goal was to hire a woman. Only in one of those cases did they end up going with a man, and I believe that was simply because no women applied or wanted the job.
I don't think there's anything wrong with seeking to hire qualified women, but I would agree that once the pool runs dry, there shouldn't be an insistence on hiring a woman.

I agree with you 100% it is most certainly not the women’s fault, that wouldn’t make sense to put the blame there. It’s the system. But some of you want to downvote as if that means anything, without a counter point to what I’m saying no one knows if you’re downvoting because you don’t agree with me or because you do agree with it and don’t like the way it is. For me it’s not personal at all but it’s my observation from what I’ve seen first hand. I do think it’ll be a dying trend simply because like you said the pool will dry up the more schools keep trying to do this.
Also what I know about women and why they don’t flock to coaching Is because a woman is less likely to take a lower paying job just to do something because it’s familiar to them or fun. Men are more likely to follow a passion and devalue the monetary gain. There’s so many jobs out there that make more money especially for women if they want to chase the bag
If there are so many people hiring women, why are there still so few women in these jobs? Let’s be so real. The convention has what- 400-500 women? Out of 1600? We’re not close.

That’s the whole point there isn’t a lot of women in coaching, but that’s only limited by the women’s desires or lack their of. Look at male nurses, same lack of desire. However, no hospitals ever tell a female nurse hey we are actually looking to hire a male nurse. Imagine what would happen if that did happen that woman could sue that hospital 1000%. You won’t address that scenario though I bet.
Listen, I’ve talked to women that work in other professions that have no skin in the game and they can’t believe it is that way in coaching, they say hey if they don’t wanna coach don’t make em if you want the job give it to the person who wants it and is qualified. What is so wrong with that?? It’s warped here.
coaching shouldn’t be about gender, best qualified person who can do the job and wants the job. I know a couple of women who coach who say they get offered jobs ALL THE TIME. I have been a coach for over 25 years and coached at 4 institutions and worked my way up I was never offered jobs. I don’t want to be offered jobs I’ve always wanted to earn the job, but maybe I’m the minority. Like I said before it will change eventually, I have hired women but not because they were a woman.

This isn’t about whether women can be good coaches, they absolutely can. It’s about reality right now. The current pool of women coaches at the elite/ NCAA level is weak. That’s just an honest assessment of results, development, and outcomes.

And let’s be clear about you seeing the numbers at the convention that is all divisions etc, the hiring of female only positions that is a D1 thing due to many factors including football and title 9. So take the convention with a grain of salt and only look at the D1 landscape

You can’t hire a male and female distance coach as that defeat the purpose of hiring the female in the first place. It seems to me when women are hired because they’re a woman it is to equalize the number of coaches at the university. They do not have to be completely equal but I believe there has to be a percentage female like 40%!?!?!? When a football team has 20 coaches that really affects the other sports. Football needs to be separate when it comes to these rules and calculations of percentages of coaches. This rule should ONLY come into play(via title9) with sports that sponsor a female and male team. So if you have a female only sport(cheerleading) or a male only sport(football) then you do not factor these sports into the percentage of coaches and other gender equality rules.
Where I think it gets tricky is the idea that hiring both a male and a female distance coach “defeats the purpose.” In practice, the purpose shouldn’t be to hire a woman to check a box, but to make sure women athletes have equitable access to leadership, mentorship, and decision-making power. Sometimes that can mean mixed staffs that are intentional about roles and influence, not just headcount.

Also I wants to add that in nowadays world people have to much thoughts in their head and they sometimes don't even what they need because they are all into social medias and web things
