Anyone have information on who Minot State picked?

What's up with their staff? Only three coaches listed now. The last archived version of the page (October 3rd) had 3 other coaches (pro's) listed, who are no longer listed and there is also no one listed under the support staff.

So these kids who are paying big bucks only to play sports at these 500 different private schools would all decide to go their local state school and join a frat if sports were dropped? and then the private schools would close?

Give me an example of one of these 500 private schools you speak of? Pick your poster child for this.

Reading the tea leaves. Head Coach Retiring Jan 1. Elevating assistant coach to Head Coach. Hiring XC Coach from Iowa State. Going to hire another sprints coach per this announcement. Had posted for an ops person a while back. Maybe going with another sprints coach rather than than ops?

Wartburg College. 2nd at D3 champs this year. Look at their location....Waverly, IA. Do you really think kids are dying to go to small below average academic school in Waverly, IA just for school?

He is correct. Most of these small colleges rely on student athlete enrollment to survive. Some of these have 50-70% of their enrollment as student-athletes. All of these schools usually have admissions recruitment goals and minimums and coaches do as well. If you have ever coached at a smaller private school you are told you have to have say 20 on XC team and 50 on Track team. This is true. So if athletics is not doing their part along with admissions schools shut down or have to cut out major programs and resources.

It's not rocket science man. Schools are closing left and right. 50% of their enrollment are athletes paying and extra 5-20k a year to go to school and play their sport (vs a big state school). You really think those students are going to choose to go to that small private school without the option of playing sports?

Again, not talking about Williams, Tufts, CWRU, etc. Yes, they would absolutely survive. But the schools barely able to fill seats. They don't have the financial resources to add an academic program or match someone's EFC. Instead....they choose a cheaper option and add a sport and tell the new Lacrosse coach that they have to have 40 on their roster within 2 years. It's real man. You don't have to believe it.

Mid-Major football schools loose their azz on sports.

Poor small privates rely on the enrollment dollars of "student-athletes".

Indiana Tech is a perfect example. A vast majority of their in-person undergrads are athletes.

Just 1? Georgetown College in Kentucky

They have a about 1500 students with almost half of them being student-athletes (they sponsor 22 sport programs. Without sports, it's a good bet they would close.

Didn't realize there were schools out there like that. I guess my thought is then at that level is it much different than club?

The other side of the coin is that there are many universities who are dropping sports because they lose money. My guess is those school don't think they are going to close if they drop sports

I ran for a small private D2 school and I would not have gone there if it was not for the running opportunity. The dorm I lived in was also 90% athletes and most of them, myself included, all would have gone to a larger state school that was cheaper if athletics to help pay for school was not an option.

Very easy to spot. Look up a school EADA report, look at their total enrollment (or per gender) divide their unduplicated count of participants (bottom of page 1) by their enrollment (top of page 1) and you'll see what percentage of the student body is on a sport.

An example I know of without naming names:

Total enrollment 1066

Male full time enrollment 534

Female full time enrollment 532

Male SA's 394

Female SA's 230

% male athletes making up the student body 73.8%

% female athletes making up the student body 43.2%

Total % of student athletes enrolled 58.5%

That's just one of hundreds of schools that are in the same boat.

I have been a head coach now for JUCO and D3 for more then 8 years now total. Assistant coach for more then 5. Trust me when I tell you there are major differences. I have seen private schools shut down like that. Benefits are terrible. A few private D3 schools are still stringent with their academics and have a high academic standards which makes it very hard for college head coaches. Especially if their conference has schools with no academic standards. After 12 years of coaching both public and private, its better to go public especially if you have a family. Public schools have WAY better benefits (including health insurance) and pay. Any University of Wisconsin at (fill in the blank) or SUNY at (fill in the blank) are honestly a few names that would be dream jobs because of pay and benefits. Plus perks with recruiting (i.e. surrounding states have same in state tuition where the school is located). In a conference I was in full of private schools some closed or moved to a differenct conference because of costs. Although I do think the NAIA is the wild wild west, I would venture to say its the same with D3. Unless if your Hopkins or the University of Chicago. Lol.
