Are you his mom? Yes, others should have been DQd. He was correctly DQd.
What was the reason for the DQ? False start? I’ve seen several ask and no one has said.
I did hear runners at the meet complaining that a competing coach demanded he was DQd even though the officials gave him a warning, but no one has verified.
Title number 10 solidifies Walt Lange as the greatest HS coach in CA history. Quietly cranking out national class runners and teams for 50+ years.
Lange certainly deserves the CIF XC Lifetime Achievement Award.
Some would argue, however, that Walt's had a lot more talent and resources to work with than did Jim White during his 17 years @ McFarland USA.
Still, rather astonishing in this day and age that anyone would be allowed to - or even want to -- work at the same job for over half a century.
Nationally, still have to look at Joe Newton/York (IL) as the most successful over a long period of time. Aris/Fay-Man & Kranicks/Saratoga Springs (both NY) also come to mind. Lange probably in that pantheon of great hs distance coaches as well.

Yes. And you are correct. The rule book says the penalty for false start is disqualification. Unfortunately, that means all of the runners that false started yesterday (before and after the D1 boys race) should have been disqualified. This is the issue, the rule was not enforced equitably or consistently across races.

Yes, it was a disqualification for a false start. The boys lined back up to restart and the official then came over and told Jack to leave the race.
I have also heard the same rumor you mentioned about a competing coach being the one that told the officials to DQ him. I cannot confirm, but the whole situation has been disheartening for my family. My son has great character and will move forward from this.
Disneyland team came through hard at CIF. Just don't go partying too hard take care of yourself and don't get sick - praying for a good team showdown at nxn
Maybe it was a good idea that Menlo chose not to do the championship race at Woodbridge, so that they could see how they would do against top CA teams in the merge without going head to head against them. That was good practice for them because it was gonna be like that at the state meet. Beating all teams in the merge gave them confidence that they had a shot at autoqualifying for NXN if they performed like this again at state.
And yeah, hoping for a good showing by them, Jesuit, and especially Glendora to show that California is still worthy of receiving at large bids
I just want to put a post in this thread to shout out Griffin Kushen. Tesoro alumni from a long time ago (2012) and I never thought in a million years we’d send someone to NXN. New coach is doing a great job with that program
Since Eyan Turk and Landon Pretre were the top finishers at Woodward Park yesterday, should they be in the conversation for the possible individual win at NXN?

We won't know until nxn rolls around so too early to say this.
Don't forget that Lange was putting out great teams for years before there even was a state meet. If state had existed for longer the number would be higher
It really is an absolutely incredible record. It might be broken someday with better shoes but I don't think anyone will ever run a better race on that course than Fernandez did. Especially since with NXN the next week there's an incentive not to try for the record (since, as we saw with the Youngs, that can backfire)
I would care less about them having an unfair advantage, and more about the fact that I've been seeing those shoes on instagram for months and am fiending for them myself. A streakfly with a plate sounds like an amazing shoe to race a 5k in
Yeah I don't care about the advantage they might've gotten. I just want to know where they got the shoes. They are probably the best shoe for Woodward park and I want to try them. It is well known that the main advantage that super shoes bring is the ability to train harder for the duration of the season without injury. The shoes you're wearing aren't going to change much over the course of a 15-16 minute race.
Apparently one of their athlete's dad was a runner for Nike. That connection and the insane money in Atherton and it makes sense they'd have the best shoes, even unreleased ones.
5 of the top 7 individual girls are graduating. Dailey and Combe are the ones who will be back next year.
That was an insane senior class
One boy who will be returning is Conor Lott, winner of the almost-forgotten D1 Boys race. Only a Jr. 15:05 is a good launch point for next year. Possible top returning boy?
Since he goes to Clovis North, trains at Woodward all the time.
