The U.S. produces less than 1% of the rare earths it "needs". 100% of the most critical elements come from China. The small amount the U.S. mines is sent to China for processing before it is returned. In other words, the U.S. has ZERO home-grown, home-processed rare earths.

A F-35 needs 900 pounds of Chinese rare earths to make itself a battle-ready fighter than a Sopwith Camel.
