you just don't seem to understand how political parties work or what their purpose is. And you seem to think that somehow a primary system could have been put together in time for the convention? That's your argument? It makes no sense. One of the reasons political parties are successful is how they smooth out the bumps like this and hold voting coalitions together. An open convention would have torn apart the Dem voting coalition. Dems knew this so they are fine with Harris. This is a feature, not a bug.
as for the border...yes, it was a screw up but an honorable one. Biden felt that Congress should solve the problem with laws and reformation of the immigration system. So he waited for Congress to do its work. And yes, Congress did work together in a bipartisan manner, got the bill done. Triumph for American Democracy? No, because Trump killed it to make more chaos on the border.
So then, seeing that the congress had failed, Biden used executive orders. Which worked, but represent a failure of a our democracy. Everything trump touches dies and he is killing the national legislature with stunts like this.
In other words, Biden's plan was an honorable way to try to get congress to do its job rather than have the president rule like a king with exec orders. It failed because he thought Rs actually wanted to fix the border. Fine. Hold it against him. Not fair, but go ahead.

Biden has been gone for a long time. There was plenty of time to root him out and have a vote among candidates that people could actually respect and get behind, if you were going to root him out anyway, which they always were. Plenty of time to install a legitimate candidate through a process.
Regardless of whether Biden, in good faith (very doubtful), thought the border should be fixed legislatively (it should), he immediately rescinded all of Trump’s executive orders. This was not at all necessary or required. But it was good optics and gaslighting, at the time. Republicans will negotiate but not until you triage the patient first.
It’s actually such a ridiculous argument that I can’t even believe we are having it. How many other countries in the world just let people defile their laws and sovereignty and just come flooding across the border and shower them with resources? C’mon man. It’s illegal. It’s easily stopped. The President can act AND the Congress can act, simultaneously.
Anyway, whatever, just keep telling yourself that these shouldn’t be liabilities, that they are not liabilities, that Republicans are just stupid. Keep it up.

I mean we all should know that the nation will benefit tremendously for generations to come from having more immigrants, but right now in 2024, immigration is costing Dems votes.
But remember our laws insist that if someone asks for asylum we take them in and give them a hearing. Take it up with Republican leadership why they killed the bill that fixed the asylum system. Dems sure wanted to fix it. Rs didn't. You are shouting at the wrong people.

If Biden had used exec orders on the border earlier it would have stabbed the legislators working on the deal in the back. Any momentum to get a deal done in congress would have evaporated. The bipartisan deal would not have happened if Joe had just done the deal unilaterally without them with exec orders.
And again, Biden's strategy worked. A tough bipartisan bill was written. Would have been a great success story and rebuilt congress a bit. but the Republican Party killed it because its leader wants chaos on the border. Shout at them, wouldja?
As for getting Joe to exit earlier, I dunno. messy situation. he needed a big public embarrassment to get to the point where he had to go. We didn't have that big embarrassment until the debate. He crushed the primaries. His state of the union address was terrific and no leakers were saying Joe was losing it. So why should he have quit? But when the debate happened it became clear he had to go, and he went. Messy but that's what happened. It took the big public embarassment of the debate.

Even if immigration stayed the same as the previous administration and the border bill passed, Trump would still be running hard on immigration.
He’d still be saying this administration let in dangerous immigrants.
And the people still would be buying it.The border is truly a non issue that hasn’t affected people’s lives differently.
But the gaslighting of this “crisis” has been effective.Abortion is truly an issue that has affected people as the Trump/McConnell Justices took away rights that every American woman had and meant a lot to men as well.
