Yeah, apart from both being Colorado-based, 39 year old, longer distance trail race enthusiasts with one syllable names with four letters beginning with the letter S who have made their name in the niche area of creating running youtube videos; you guys are polar opposites.
Thank you! I appreciate the support and long term viewership. It's been 16 years of me doing running related videos on YouTube now....
And for the record I don't really like being compared to SJD. Besides being "total opposites" in a lot of ways he's actually also not raced that many road marathons himself (or ultramarathons in the 50-mile to 100km range for that matter). Which is interesting because he's been in Colorado a lot longer than me and also ran DI at CU Boulder where there are great mountain trails and road running access all around.
I've had the good fortune to experience a lot of ultra-trail races (as well as road marathons) around the world and I'd like to think that that course specific experience and variety in #AnySurfaceAnyDistance racing is something that comes through in my "training talks" and running coaching advice.
Anyway, here's a shameless plug for my friend Stephen aka "Serious Runner":
Seth is a Christian and presumably conservative. Sage is neither. As such, Sages takes exception to being compared Seth despite the glaring similarities between the two, summarized by kiltedrunner.
I actually don't think Seth is a conservative. He stays very apolitical on his channel. A lot of his mottos are pretty egalitarian, as is the ethos of his channel. The only political issue that ever comes up at all on his channel is the environment and I'd put him left of center there. I'd say he's a moderate and probably voted third party or if he voted for Trump or Harris, split his ticket.

And America won't heal until it sees such minor differences as superfluous and unimportant. Let the Middle East learn from running youtube- Sage vs Seth 5km showdown 2025 collaboration, you heard it here first.

Drives gigantic trucks, and drives them a ton
Extreme anti masker. During his travels during the covid peak, while mask mandates existed, he would constantly take his mask off - in taxis, airports, planes - just to mug for the camera. Just zero respect for others.

"Does his own research" for training programs.
Yep, definitely a moderate

Large cars aren't trucks.
"Extreme anti masker...would constantly take his mask off"
How can you call him an "extreme anti-masker" then refer to him occasionally removing his mask in the very next sentence? I'd say, by definition, an extreme anti-masker would refuse to wear masks entirely? The mask rules at that time were largely nonsensical anyway. Do you remember when masks were necessary when walking to the restaurant table and then suddenly unnecessary when seated? And how that didn't and still doesn't make any sense to anyone with even a cursory knowledge of viral load?

I think trying to guess someone's political compass based on how they train for a marathon is a bit of a reach.

Darn that 6 ft. rule (witch of course wasn't based on science)

Politics and religion and monster trucks and kids aside I was more pointing out [what I see as] a big difference in our running history:
1. Seth is not a coach (from what I've gathered). Whereas "Training Talks" and coaching are a big part of my Youtube channel and business.
2. Seth actually hasn't run that many road marathons. Like a few 2:22-2:24 efforts? I've run like 20+ (half a dozen sub 2:20:00). A few Olympic Trials too.
3. Seth hasn't run that many ultramarathons. I know he's done Speedgoat 50km and a few other 50km events as well as maybe one or two longer ones? I've done like 40+ ultramarathons....including lots of 50-milers and 100km events.
One similarity though: We both have not done very well in the few 100-milers we've attempted. Yes, I'll fully admit and own up to that! We also both made a few World Mountain Running teams (short distance) for the US. I did not film during the world champs race though...

On point 1) Seth not being a coach is something that he should be commended for. He could easily be raking it in 'coaching' and he's chosen not too (it's a choice as we all know they'd be lots of people on that band wagon).

Commended for because he would be a disaster. He would tell people to jog for 2 hours when they trying to do a couch to 5k program.
I gradually stopped watching runtubers (including shoetubers) the more knowledge and experience I got as a runner. I don't think I know all or I've become some amazing runner, but I think I know enough to do decently well and I feel these runtubers just waste my time tbh. Nowadays the only running content I watch is the occasional race when I'm on the stationary bike.
The new BITR shoe reviews are even more confusing than before. They have some sort of Form-Fit-Function rating that no one can make sense of. Why can’t they review shoes like weight, upper, midsole, ride and outsole like everyone else?
