goes through high school as a "girl" and dominates, and sadly its not that hard. his mom and him parade around the news about how courageous this is, talk to a few colleges and one college that is ready to be the leader in this new PC movement will sign little tommy, now known as cindy, to a full ride scholarship. cindy will also receive lots and lots of other grants and financial scholarships because its sooooo PC.

in college cindy will still be slightly better than most girls on the team, and thus stealing a spot, stealing the spotlight, and being like tebow mania for the media. it will be a circus. and just like the first black in sports or the first gay in sports etc, it will be a big media hype and other colleges will jump on board.

It's different than the Semenya scenario because this athlete is both genotypically and phenotypically male whereas Semenya is an intersex athlete.

Ethically, it's the same dilemma.

I get it, I really do. She is not choosing to be female to compete and win against other women. Deep down she identifies as a woman and wants to be treated as one. That's her right and that right should be protected. A lot of these comments are sickening.

With that being said, protecting her right to compete as a woman infringes on the rights of women as whole to compete in a protected class of sport. There is no perfect solution, but I feel we need to protect that right and, as a result, athletes like Semenya and this freshman should not be able to compete with women.

Ben Shapiro has it right. No one is denying their humanity, but we are doing a disservice to these people by championing them as courageous. They have a mental illness and should not be exploited.

I don't think that she should be competing in the girls category in high school competition.

However, having said that, a lot of these angry hate fueled comments are really sickening especially coming from people who I presume are long past there adolescence. There's nothing wore than people who have likely never met or gotten to know a transgender person and have never studied the issue, anonymously spewing their angry bigoted thoughts against a 15 year old in an online message board. There are a lot of issues that people live with that I don't understand because I don't know people who suffer from them and I haven't studied the conditions. Imagine if the types of comments that people are making against transgender people were said against autistic people or people with cerebral palsy or any other type of condition?

Most people who have in fact researched transgender related issues and know people who are transgender believe that transgenderism is an inborn condition. Instead of angrily criticizing a group of people who face much greater animosity and have had to overcome much greater obstacles in life than you could ever imagine, why don't you just be thankful that you are not transgender and have not had to experience living an a society that is primarily opposed to your existence.

And "progressives" still don't see how it doesn't make any sense to call a boy a girl. I wish I was a master of doublethink like you guys. Ignorance is Strength.

Yes! This is absolutely true. I have been a very vocal feminist for many years, and I'm alarmed that some fellow feminists don't recognize the danger of equating gender identity with biology. I think a few things are driving this:

1. A lot of research about biological gender differences is biased and/or not as clear cut as it first appears, so some feminists are reluctant to acknowledge that biological differences exist at all.

2. Most people are ignorant about track and field. For example, the differences between Semenya's times when she's on and off testosterone suppression drugs seems negligible to people who don't know better. Also, because they fall within the range of prior women's performances (very likely testosterone-doped performances), her defenders cannot see how unlikely it is for a cis-gender woman to compete against people like her.

3. Some people who criticize intersex and trans athletes resort to sexist and racist name-calling. In responding to that, people who want to defend these athletes end up rejecting legitimate arguments.

Again, I am a feminist and pretty far left in terms of politics, and I see this as an instance of feminism devouring itself inside out.
