2 real stories from the past year.

One guy in his 40s tells me that he ran a 4:04 mile when he was in the 8th grade.

I said:

No.

You did not run a 4:04 mile in the 8th grade…because you would be the fastest American ever at that age…and I would know your name.

Another pudgy guy who was about 6 feet and 180 lbs. tells me that he did a "5 mile training run in 20:00 last week."

I said:

Wow. You ran FIVE miles in a row at 4:00 per mile with no rest on a training run?

He said:

Yes. I did it last week.

I said:

That is really good. You broke the World Record for 5 miles... by about a minute... on a training run…and it looks like you are pudgy and need to lose some weight.

No.

There are legitimate concerns exist about record attempts by runners with little or no genuine elite ultra history, and most people who follow the records acknowledge that no cadence data from a watch on the wrist of the runner leaves too much opportunity for cheating. I am sure that if Dave is in the sort of shape that meant he really could go for the record, it wouldn't be difficult to source watches that do cadence, and upload his data daily. That's too wishy washy and forgets to accuse them of the other important things like Dave cheating on past runs and now conning people so he can selfishly get rich and famous with his posse of scammers.

He didn't raise very much money so from a financial aspect I wouldn't worry about it.

He is not going to get famous either looking at his following and LR would eat him alive and media outlets would pick up on it.

GPS and cadence would be a good start. Granted, I am 110% confident that he couldn't cone clise to the record. But at least we would have data to look at.

At least we would know he did it, however slowly, unless of course he hands the watch to someone else in the middle of the night who runs for him.

To be honest, it's a shame that he's been outed before the record attempt.

Things could have become interested if he'd started banging out 100 mile days, reckon there could have been a lot of interest in a few people going out there to have a look.

The one benefit of it being in the UK and not the US is that there aren't so many long deserted roads, you're pretty close to civilisation at all times.

Worse than that he lied to my boy Harry about going for the world record, so it's off to the Tower Dave.

Getting someone to have the same cadence profile would be really tough. With data you could analyze cadence to be reasonably sure that it is the same person.

Well, we still haven't done an audit of all the sponsorships and offline collected funds. I find it ludicrous to believe they have not received a decent amount of money from their sponsorships and offline duping. The money doesn't add up. The amount of money he has disclosed would have been eclipsed by working part time at McDonald's.

It would have been too much of a time crunch to out them in the middle of the run since it was only planned for 9 days.

You can still go follow him for a day to make sure he runs every single step instead of riding in the RV. I bet you that not even a single day would achieve the 93 miles he said he would do.

He's obviously been given lots of free kit and probably funds from these sponsors to do this trip, on the back of lies he was a great runner.

If other people want to do this trip it costs them money - Kit, driver, etc. If he got funded for it then he IS benefiting from his lies

That man has top quality diplomacy credentials - if Reading's supporters object to that then they are even more moronic than we had supposed.

David Reading has a coach, Neil Feathersby of Sportlink Running & Fitness Stores. Can Neil confirm the 36 miles under 6 hours in horrendous conditions?

Why is Neil Feathersby (the coach) so strangely silent on all of this controversy? What does 36 miles under 6 hours equate to for a marathon?

It's me, I can either be reasonable and maybe get a discussion around the issues or go in being an ass hole about it and get my post deleted and get blocked. Plenty of others seem to have tried the ass hole route and it didn't work, why would I try the same tactic. Unlike others who suggest it's too wishy washy I'm not enough of a ducking idiot to try something we already know doesn't work. It's almost like I engaged by brain before posting on a page that his team have admin rights over. I lasted longer than most on the Rob Young page, people on his side even called me reasonable about it, because I stuck to asking about the facts. But hey some people think messaging abuse will be a more constructive approach, go figure.
