It is certainly unusual. And it carries more merit and culpability when you bring someone with you that has been used as a "hitman" in the past.

When a company employs those kinds of people at it's high ranks, it says something about the company. Acknowledging that is not being a pu$$y, that's being a decent human being. Roughing up someone because you think he sabotaged Justin Gatlin via massage oils, THAT is being a pu$$y.

Also, I don't fire people because "I don't like them". I do, however, fire them when they are terrible people, bereft of a moral compass, that act unprofessionally and make me and my company look bad.

Tricking people into punching you so you can "self-defense" or take them to court is cowardly. Walking up to someone face to face to fight is the complete opposite of cowardly.
