No I'm not. I said "pick your fuel". Sprinters will burn through it like dragsters, where economy is measured in gallons per mile, not miles per gallon. For short duration events like sprints, the ability to conserve fuel economically is way less important than the primary ability to produce a large quantity of energy quickly, for that short duration.Since it's been awhile, let me remind you of the context. The initial claim, by "bass ackwards" was that explosive foot strikes were extremely uneconomical, and this lack of economy is the reason sprinters cannot be found in other events where economy is important.

My point was that the reason sprinters are not good at "economical events" is not a question of economy -- there are better reasons that explain why sprinters only sprint. You seem to want to argue that sprinting is also an "economical event". Would that help explain why sprinters can only be found in sprinting events? Seems like even this approach reinforces my point that it is not a question of economy. What can "running events where economy is important" possibly mean, if economy is important for all events? If economy is important for sprinting events too, then the initial claim suggests we can find sprinters in all running events. You've rendered the claim absurd by using an interpretation that was not intended. I took it for granted to mean events where we cannot find sprinters, despite what was written. Whatever point you want to make about economy, either aerobic or anaerobic, economy is not the reason we don't find sprinters in uneconomical events.

You are right. It's all the same stuff and it is probably all wrong too. Long base training, etc... Maybe you don't need long base training with no speed work and that is a waste of time? It is all very unscientific.

Nothing innovative. Maybe the correct training is to never have a full easy day. Maybe the best training is low volume max VO2 frequently to keep fresh instead of 1 day of interval training each week with 1 day of tempos?

How about this training hypothesis? Do a little speed every time you run? Even if just 800m at the end of your run? Maybe that works great?
