Maybe it's a reflection of a nation's character. Has anyone ever heard of a Japanese athlete being banned for doping, or even accused of it? I haven't.

If that makes you feel better for your shortcomings, then godspeed. The likes of Hesch are the dark exception to our sport. Frauds like him are few and far between. It's tough for some to swallow that there are a lot of intelligent, hard working, talented, and dedicated athletes out there whose performances are "enhanced" solely by these variables.
Didn't he defraud the race sponsors and organizers who paid him? Can't they file criminal charges? Any lawyers here?
It's highly unlikely anyone will manage to squeeze money out of him, but some prison time would be nice to see.

They can file a complaint but it is up to police to investigate complaints and up to DAs to file criminal charges. Quite frankly the police and DAs are not going to waste their time. They'd tell anybody complaining to sue civilly.

I felt certain that the damage this would cause would be difficult to overcome, and thus I gave a 100% false record of what occurred in my past. I was also concerned that the investigating reporter was using 2nd, 3rd, and even 4th hand information, and even blatantly making up information in one case (asking me to “confirm” an alleged activity that, myself, my attorney, and USADA can all confirm, is untrue). Whether this reporter was simply a victim of misinformation from others, or it was intentional, I believe I did what I needed to in order to allow myself to negotiate with USADA without prejudice.

So fitting how many people, in praise and support of this fraud, nearly hit the nail on the head, things that seem to come up a lot:

Thanks. Maybe our best hope is that a DA in one of the many places Hesch ran turns out to be a runner with a strong dislike for dopers.

I tend to agree with you. Too many in this country look for the shortcuts and aren't willing to put in the work. Some are, but the character and ethics in our country have changed drastically from what it was a few generations ago.
You can see this with the doping, white color crime on wallstreet, etc.. The get rich quick mentality.
Did he ever run sub-4 on the track? If not, and he's calling himself a sub-4 miler off road performances then he should never have had the vanity plate in the first place.

I believe there are grounds to file suit in smalls claims court against him. I do not think he has the ability to pay, but I am willing bring this one for the betterment of the sport. Getting the judgment will hopefully make a statement. Please contact me, if you have lost money to Hesch and lets see what our options are.

Good thought and generous contribution. Hesch clearly can't and or won't pay and it is probably putting in good money to chase bad money if you know what I mean.
I have some experience with a similar type of situation that I wish I had just walked away from even though I got paid in the end. Just wasn't worth the trouble.
a part of me initially felt, "who am i to judge," and then i realized i may be exactly the right person to judge. i'm not saying he's going to hell--i'll leave that to other "christians"--but as a middle distance runner, slightly aged, reasonably fast both then and now, from southern california, moderately acquainted with the criminal-at-hand, and bearing the same first name, he f-d up and has yet to truly man up. don't lace up a pair of running shoes until you pay back every dollar you stole. there is no time for even "recreational" running when that time should be spent flipping burgers, rummaging for recyclables, and/or selling your wares along sunset until you've worked your ass off to repay every cent.
even after that, don't ever expect any other clean runner to toe the line with you as if you were one of us. to all you "don't cast a stone" people: i'm casting a stone because i got every athletic achievement, however modest, out of my body the right way. i'm not saying christian is evil, and i'd more readily be less likely--and less able--to judge him for a multitude of other mistakes, but this is a pretty clear case of not only absentee conscience, but complete disregard for a small voice that was probably speaking pretty loudly every time he shot up. while at this point i'm used to the suspicions that may arise any time i run fast, in my own mind i've always thought, what kind of idiot would put their body at risk (beyond the usual training and cup of coffee that are my performance "enhancers") for what really amounts to chump change in prize money (even his purported 40k is not life-changing, or even life-saving for most) and occasional mention in a letsrun thread? what kind of idiot thinks i'd be an idiot enough to do this for the above? now, unfortunately, dude, you are proof of the former (i've long since learned i can do nothing about the latter).
