I definitely feel that he is a better runner than what he displayed today. One thing he might want to look at is how much racing he has done in the last 3-4 months, I think he raced too much, hate to say this but he probably should have not raced world cross in Kenya if his main goal was the London Marathon, then he ran a 10k on the track after world cross, not a smart move in my opinion, too much racing.
London Update:
Ryan Hall had a great day today with the fastest American debut ever for marathon. Unfortunately, the other Americans had a tough day at the office as Meb, khannouchi, Hartman did not finish and Fasil walked in at 2:29.
The heat was a factor. For Fasil, he is reevaluating his prep and will run another day. He is obviously very dissapointed and I am also dissapointed for him. He probably should have not finished as finishing might have caused more damage than good. Knowing Fasil, that good marathon effort is not far away and he will hammer one down soon. The Olympic Marathon Trials are in Nov. and the buildup to them is going to be exciting.
Thanks for everyone that guessed a time and followed the London Marathon. Despite Fasil\'s dissapointment, it has been amazing to be here. Fasil, me, and several friends will probably be partying (if we can convince Fasil to do so) until we leave on Tuesday.
Can anyone suggest a good pub in London?

What the hell ever. No apology needed or deserved. Picking that time, for whatever reason, was insulting... she was indeed 'hating'.
He was hurting and had the balls to finish. It happens in the marathon. Here's wishing him a speedy recovery, and saying thanks for representing the US in Kenya last month.

Picking that time was probably quite clever. Whilst most were going much lower she probably figured that everyone can have a very bad day in a marathon. Its a very different ball game.

I ran a pr of 16:20 for 5k today but I am a better runner than that so I will change my handle to a15minrunner!

Uh, because he ran over 10 minutes faster than that in his marathon debut, and his 10k times, half marathon times, etc. convert to much faster.
As for the guy saying the 2:22 prediction was so clever... well done. She cleverly hedged her bets in case of bad conditions. The kid had been running well, this contest is for fun (unless you really take that $50 bucks seriously), and it was a cool way for people to show their support and try to predict what time he would run. All recent racing results for Fasil pointed to a fast performance... it's a shame about the heat.
My point (and that of Fasil's brother) is that there is no way one would reasonably expect Fasil to run 2:22. He could do that as a tempo run (if he went out at 5:23 pace or whatever it is). Thus, it's kind of a dick thing to do to predict such a slow time. But again, if your main goal is to be clever and try to win $50, so be it. Congrats to her, but she is certainly not owed an apology of any kind.

What made you think that he would have a good day? I like the guy and think he works his ass off but he and Kipligat both chose to run World Cross (that heat has an effect on you). On top of that Fasil chose to run a fast (pb) 10k last week. I think he will come back stronger than ever but he needs to learn restraint when it comes to the amount of races he runs. Take a look at Fernando. While he was over racing his camp said that he can handle it. Although he ran a great marathon, he still is not fully recovered. It always catches up with you, it is just a matter of when. Alberto Salazar ended his wonderful career about 5 years early for the same reason. Now before you jump all over me for being critical, I predict a 2:11 for Fasil in the next 2 years.
You should stop playing with your handle and open your ears for better auditory stimulus. He ran a 62 min half at the USA champs, he obviously didn't run to his full potential today, I believe he raced too much in his build up to the marathon.

That's cool, man. I totally see your point. Really, all I was saying is that if you're going to predict 2:22, you might as well predict DNF. 2:22 means you are predicting that Fasil was going to have an awful race, given his fitness and expectations.

It seem somewhat insulting to Fasil to predict that he'd have a bad race, but given the density of predicted times between 2:10-2:15 (and considering the conditions that caused several top marathoners to DNF), it was a good bet. I'm sure the person who won was thinking about probability, not making it a personal attack.
