when this price of oil goes up, prices/inflation go up on everything else due to increased transport costs.
it's deadweight loss. it's not like you get more gas or more stuff for a product made more expensive by transport.

Americans have limited money. in theory if the price of oil goes up, americans will put more of their limited money into their gas tanks, so they won't have as much money to spend on other stuff.
That brings down demand for other stuff, bringing down prices for other stuff. Reducing inflation.

I think you might be surprised by how little the price of energy affects inflation. back in the 1970s sure, the price of energy was important to inflation.
now....not so much. Oil prices have been all over the map and it hasn't had much correlation to US inflation. The economy is far less energy dependent than it used to be.
