Full startlists have been released today for the Maurie Plant Meet - Australia's biggest annual track meet. The only footy game on in Melb is Essendon Vs North at Marvel, so if they don't get a packed house, I don't know what to say.
Loaded fields, storylines everywhere. What are we keen for? Myers/Farken/Spencer/Anstey in the 1500 is huge, but i'm really keen to see chicken boi Morgs in the 3k against Seth and Stewy (hopefully Stewy's fit).
Quite a few backing up after World Indoors - Bol, Spencer, Farken (German), Hall. Good stuff.
I honestly believe Myers could have won double gold in both 3000m and 1500m at World Indoors. I think it is a missed opportunity for him, and chance to build experience. Meanwhile, Cooper Lukhenhaus youngest indoor champion. You have to be in it, to win it I guess.
Nina Kennedy vs Amanda & Hana Moll. Matt Denny vs Roja Stone and Lawrence Okoye. Georgia Hunter-Bell, Jacory Patterson, Nicola Olyslagers, Gout Gout.
With the Roster Athletics site, if you click on the three dots, then right-click on the startlist, it'll open in a new tab, so you don't have to keep going backwards and forwards. Still confusing with the way the races are labeled though.
For McDonald I think at this point anything under 7:40 would be a big step in the right direction and a good stepping stone for the European season. Robinson would be considered a good chance to break 27 in the 10k. As for Maurie Plant and his history... better options - Betty Cuthbert Meet? Shirley Strickland? Ron Clarke? Edwin Flack?

The Herb Elliott Meet. He has a claim to being the best 1500m runner ever. No one else has never lost a race. He's 88 now, so he's getting on.

No chance is Bretty breaking 27, even 27:30 would be a stretch. No beef - i just don't think he has the leg speed at this stage in his career. Happy to be proved wrong of course!

I think Cam is a phenomenal runner and an absurd talent but I don’t think he was beating Josh Kerr or Cole Hocker over 3000m at this stage of his career, even with the ridiculous form he showed indoors.
Lauren Ryan was just on ABC news breakfast talking about being done over by AA. She wanted to run the 1500 at Maurie Plant, they added a 3000 and then told her to do that one. She said she'd like to run the 1500, not the 3000. She's then ghosted by the organisers and is not running anything.
I've heard Bideau organises the athletes for Maurie Plant. Of course.
Also VERY interesting there's news reports of AA beef with Team Hull. She's your star athlete and competes at bloody everything, AA will come out of this looking like fools.

Is Lauren still part of UA Dark Sky? Same team Jack Anstey is part of, who also called out AA after his non selection for World Indoors…
I saw the article re Hull and AA beefing, but it was paywalled. Any insight into what it actually said?
There has been a thawing in the relationship between the Hull camp and Athletics Australia over the past 12 months.
Her father and coach, Simon, is understood to have had concerns about the level of support they received leading up to the Tokyo world chamipionships. The situation reached the point where AA president Jane Flemming recently reached out to the Hulls in an attempt to mend bridges but was unable to change the situation.
It was relayed Hull was having a delayed return from Poland even though other athletes who competed at the world indoor championships, including Adam Spencer who won bronze in the men’s 1500m and 800m finalist Peter Bol, managed to return earlier and will be competing on Saturday night.
Flemming also issued an invitation for Hull to come down from her Newcastle base even if she wasn’t competing to attend the VIP function and present medals at the event.
Last season Hull took part in Michael Johnson’s ill-fated Grand Slam Track series with her only appearance on the domestic scene being at the Australian championships in Perth in April where she claimed the 1500m national crown.
In 2023, the first year of the Maurie Plant Meet (it was previously known as the Melbourne Track Classic), Hull won the 1500m with Hollingsworth claiming victory last year in her absence. It is the only World Athletics Continental Tour Gold level meet in Oceania.
Hull is expected to compete at next month’s Australian championships in Sydney where she has hinted at potentially creating history by attempting to win three national titles over 800m, 1500m and 5000m.
The 29-year-old is still seeking a major title after coming agonisingly close at the Paris Olympics and then winning bronze in the 1500m at last year’s world championships in Tokyo.
“I know my time is coming,” Hull said after her double medal effort in Poland. “To be leaving the world indoor championships with a bronze and a silver against world-class fields feels incredible. I am happy to be very consistently on the podium.”

Nick's only got Billings and his own daughter in the 1500 so he must be banking on a payday for one or both of them.

Thanks for posting the story. This won't have come from Jess Hull's team right? This is Bideau et al. backgrounding her? It has a vibe of 'Jess is being difficult' which is unfair considering her indoors load and her focus on Nationals. AND an athlete can do what they want, particularly an Oly medallist. Shut up AA.
I don’t see anybody in this thread talking about Australia’s biggest prospect and literally one of the only male medalist the past few years, Lachlan Kennedy. Kennedy has a 100 pB of 9.98 and won the 60 silver in 2025 with a time of 6.50
The herald sun / code sports article regarding Jess Hull and athletics Australia appears to be click bait nonsense, no surprise there it was behind a paywall. EXCLUSIVE: Report of a rift between Jessica Hull and Australian Athletics 'fabricated', 'bizarre' and a 'shame' this was a 9 news article.
