I don’t know if “cut the group” makes sense. Women’s long distance doesn’t have this problem. They need to find the right athletes for challengers to push the pace a bit.
Why wasn’t Hagos here? he might have pushed it after his Kingston experience
Grant losing is a good thing. now he can’t let it come down to final 200 again. he needs to make sure he wins the 5K so the race will be more honest
one possible solution is to have half way bonuses like they do at 5th Avenue mile. or to just award $50K to winner of each race
The question for a journalist is: What is the interesting story?
And the answer in this case was that the embarrassingly slow pace was by far the most interesting thing happening.
Oh, and here's a hint: You can "promote racing" without running 30 seconds/mile slower than your PB pace in a given event. Gosh, do you think it might "promote racing" more if they made an effort before the last 1000m.
This was just a C-league middle-distance race, not a distance race. The group should be cut at this point.

They need to pay Beamish to be the anti-rabbit. There's not a man in the world I would bet on to outkick Beamish in a 3k that goes slower than 7:45 or a 5k slower than 13:30. Everyone else would either have to run a respectable race, or they know they are all running for 2nd.

Beamish almost got slammed by Sam Ellis btw, you're slobbering on it.
Is there any website with a live tracker? On his Strava people have commented about a tracker either being in a vehicle or on him, but is that something we can see live? The lack of publicity/openness about the attempt raises some eyebrows. I search ‘Will Goodge Transcon’ in Google and there is nothing, all we’ve got is the YouTube vids and Strava posts

The fastest men who race the 5,000m are not N’getich and generally are somewhat cowardly honestly. You have to give her credit for running the legs off people and in Worlds I don’t expect her to let Chebet to have a fun run for 9,600 before blowing her doors off.
The men meanwhile jog around for 4K and let Jakob take their medals in the 5,000. Maybe Aregawi would be different, and maybe Kejelcha too. I don’t believe anyone else would be. There is less separation on the men’s side but there’re also fewer athletes with N’getich’s mindset and fearlessness.
He can’t just sit on the rail, in second, and expect the ocean to part like it did for him in the Olympics.
It’s like he’s waiting for an opportunity rather than racing. He’s got to react.
I’d agree, but I also don’t think he’s sharp right now. He’s basically racing these like early season races where he’s trying to save energy and finish strong as opposed to going for the win. I don’t think he’s an unconfident guy I think he is training through these races. It’s a bit weird to see because that isn’t the approach of Kerr/Nuguse and I think it makes Hocker look a little worse than he is. Nuguse has done some fast, fast stuff.
Kerr is also more aggressive in general with that stuff in his system. It seems like Ben Thomas gets his guys primed for February and then backs off until a month before USAs to set up the postseason. It exposes Hocker a bit, but it’ll be interesting to see if by LAGP/Pre he’s back to his summer form of last year.

grand slam needs to stop disrespecting time and splits. I can get past the finishing times being garbage, but I want to know splits to be able to put into context how the race might finish out, and to see what these guys are capable in certain kinds of races.
They're taking the clock off the screen at important times. They don't show a camera angle that even lets you catch your own split from watching the screen. And as far as I can tell, splits are nowhere to be found online.
Track people are numbers people. we can adjust to the idea of slow, but the numbers are still important for purposes of comparing and contrasting.
I get that michael johnson doesn't understand distance running, but what the hell are you doing Kyle Merber?

Yeah the total disregard for showing the time is bizarre to say the least. I saw a few 500m splits which made me laugh, who cares about that? And kilometers per hour? Also so hard to tell where in the race (or on the track) they are.
To everyone complaining about the times - just accept that you don't actually like track as a sport and stop whining. Actual fans of the sport love racing in whatever form it takes.

I thought it was strange too especially at some moments they did show 100m splits, which is what people are clamoring for. Very random presentation. I’d say just show the data and instruct Cram to not harp on it because it’s there but when they drop a sub-13.5 100 in a 1500 or 3,000 it is interesting.
