You are correct. The US isn't obligated to protect Ukraine.
However, the Memo is very clear that all countries to the accord agreed to not use force against or threaten the territorial integrity or political independence of Ukraine, which Russia clearly violated. It's natural that the remaining parties to the agreement would seek to enforce it.
Yes there's a point in the memo you've never read in your life which addresses just that scenario.
What does it say?
Point 2. Just a guess, because you know I've never read it.
If a 6'5 350 pound dude tells you to give him your car keys would you:
A. Fight him and let him beat the sh*t out of you and take your car anyway.
B. Just give him the keys.
There is ZERO chance you are as cavalier with your own life and money as you are with other people life and money.
Appeasement probably works well in real life for the indovidual. You'll never see the robber again. You avoid being beat up and sure, you suffer some material damage, but the risk benefit makes sense for you.
It's not great from a societal perspective though, as that same robber has now experienced a positive outcome from his behaviour. He's probably more likely to rob someone else now. Whereas if half the people he tried to rob fought him to the point of causing injuries, he might be a little less eager to hold someone up. Societally, we think that consequences are necessary to help curb unwanted social behavior. It's why we have laws and police and prisons.
This same principle applies on a geopolitical scale. There are numerous historical examples of appeasement not working (Germany and the Sudentenland is the most obvious example, not to relate everything back to Nazis). If a country (Russia) experiences a positive outcome pursuing expansionist behaviour, it is likely they will continue to engage in that behaviour.
Now, America can't be the world police on every transgression, and there is a reasonable argument about how many resources or lives the country should spend - but I think it's disingenuous to suggest that Ukraine ceding territory is the clear path to future peace.
Finally, I find it strange that some posters seem to be gleeful over Ukranian defeat. Russia is clearly the aggressor here. I don't understand how anyone in North America/Western Europe could look at one country (particularly a first world country) invading another without due cause as anything but wrong.
So fight until it looks like you might lose, then give up? I assume you apply that loser strategy to every aspect of your life.

If you are a bunch of colonies in the forest and a 6'5" dude doesn't want you to gain your independence, give it up, it will never happen . (USA v. England)
If you are a little nation in Asia and a 6'5" dude wants you to change governments, just do it. (Vietnam vs America)
Certainly India would never get its independence from England. And no way Afghanistan would push back the USSR!
I could go on.

4. Seek immediate Security Council action to provide assistance to the signatory if they "should become a victim of an act of aggression or an object of a threat of aggression in which nuclear weapons are used".
If you had any brains at all you would understand how dumb the Chamberlain comparison is.
When Chamberlain finally did draw a line in the sand Germany walked right over it and conquered France and threw the Brits off the continent in less than a month.
If you cannot back up your tough talk with violence you words are completely meaningless.
The US just got done wasting 80 years babysitting you idiots. We're not going to enter another war because you are all feckless p*ssies and can't do it yourselves.

Good thing the US is strong enough to enforce a line in the sand. They’ve held off Russian aggression for years with crappy old equipment.
Not sure we should be listening to the “5 days tops” guy for accurate assessments in here 🤣🤣

The irony of you idiots thinking the 5 days tops thing is point for you side is hysterical.
It's March 2025 and none of you idiots have yet figured out what the intelligent people knew before the invasion even started.
I don't know how anyone thinks the Tariffs are a good idea. Actually, the Trump supporting base are poor and uneducated so they probably don't care about the markets.
Intelligent people throw themselves out of the nearest window at the first sign of market volatility.
If the day to day stock price worries you aren't wealthy enough to be trading stocks.
Get over yourself and throw yourself out the window.
