How well Hedengren finishes at NCAA xc next year depends on how many African 25 year old "freshman" women get recruited.
Just counting American born women Hedengren might be able to be top 5.
She most likely will be very good, but the top 5 and 8 of top 10 return, and the top 4 just ran 15:00 or faster so top 5 next year will be quite a feat.

Africans aren't making as big as impact as expected. After the top three (3) expected Kenyans (Lemngole, Kosgei, and Olemomoi) the others were mortals and scattered across the field with the Canadians and other internationals.
Nike Cross Nationals took on Glendover Golf Course in Portland, Oregon, where Jane Hedengren won the individual title and Mountain Vista the team championship.
Woodward park record was soft? She is the same runner with the same injury. It was Woodward park CR holder getting dropped by a minute(in bad conditions).
I think Hedengren could run 16:10, maybe faster at Woodward and 16:45, maybe (probably) faster at Balboa Park, so yes I say 16:30 at Woodward is (was) a little soft.

Six months ago, Allie Zealand crushed this girl in a 2mile race at the Brooks PR Invitational (running 9:42).
Zealand came in 20th at this year’s Southeast Region Cross-Country Championships, a minute behind the winner that day (NC State’s Grace Hartman.)
Zealand recently ran a 9:07 3000m at BU (for 21st place), whereas, Jack Daniels says Zealand’s 9:42 is equivalent to an 8:59.

The point of the above is not to say Zealand has regressed, but rather, maybe there needs to be some pumping of the brakes on the crazy talk going on in this thread (like top 5 at Natty’s next year.)
She is the fastest high schooler in history. Of course she will finish top 5.
“Fastest” by running only a 15:50 in a 5k? It’s simply delusional to think that is good enough to make top 5 at Natty’s.
Maybe one can think that if 19yr-old phenom Amy Bunnage can make top 5 at Natty’s, then 19yr-old Jane Henedgren will, but that discounts the benefit Bunnage has received by running a full year in the NCAA before that top 5 finish her sophomore year.
Jane is obviously incredibly talented. I would love to know more about her training plans. Only because I just want to learn. Parker Valby doesn't run very many miles. Keeghan Edwards barely ran on ground before state, Ritzenhein does slightly different workouts than her teammates, adds in weight training, etc. Leachman... She does high ens speed with a ton of miles. I know the average girl will never be those girls, but is the exact same work for the whole team a good thing? She is an inspiration. Like so many of the girls that placed high at NXN.

World Athletics Points:
Outdoor 2-mile 9:42 = 1100
Indoor 3000 9:07 = 1104
Rachel Forsyth opened in 8:59 for 3000m... Forsyth placed 5th at NXN and 3rd at Foot Locker in 2023 behind Zealand. Also placed 16th at NCAA as a true freshwoman.

Forsyth off to a good start, but she is the exception rather than the rule. The majority of high school stars redshirt, get hurt, regress or completely disappear at college level
In Forsyth case, she had her health struggles in hs and recovered for her sr year. This experience may have ended up helping her adjust to college.
Hedengren has POTENTIAL to be All-American in xc, and run 4:30/15:20 as a freshman at BYU, but given history I would not bet on it. Jenna Hutchins now at BYU a good case study.
I would guess she redshirts, as BYU won't even need her next year to make a good title defense.
I misunderstood your comment questioning hiw 15:50 made her the fastest. Glad to hear that you are recognizing that she ran the fastest NXN time in history. She is certainly much better than Tuohy and every other girl who had run there. She may even be in the hunt for the win next year. I really thought you were doubting her but you have convinced. Never meant to call you a liar. I completely agree with you.
