some new distance results for some of this thread's subjects:
Marco Arop 1:11 HM / confirmation of 30mpw
Brandon Miller 36:25 10k XC
Both of these make sense. No need for these guys to run any faster/more mileage for how much their raw speed is worth.
I'm sure Arop could run a solid mile and for sure under 4:00, but there is absolutely some untapped potential in the 400M as well. I mean he does run 1:41 after all. Historically those have been the dudes who can run a low-45 and sub 4:00 mile
800 meters is usually considered a mid-range run. This race combines speed and endurance, and although its distance is short, it requires runners to have a certain level of aerobic and anaerobic ability. For many athletes, the 800 meter race is neither a pure sprint nor a long-distance run, but a challenge that requires finding a balance between speed and endurance.

According to Armstronglivs, the 5000m can be middle distance, depends on who runs it. So maybe the 800m also can be a walking event? Dependent on the athlete who "runs" it?

El G remains a md athlete despite winning the 5k in Athens. But with regard to the 800 it would be a walk in your case. Everyone would pass you.

Really? What is that poster's 800m PB? What is yours?

5000m is a long distance event, it doesn't depend on the athlete who runs it.

It actually does. Running it doesn't make you a distance runner - unless you are good at it or better than you are over shorter distances. Ingebrigtsen has had success at it but it isn't his best distance. That is, so far, between 2k-2mile. And whether he "sprints" the 800 or not he will never be good at that.

No, it doesn't.
5000m is a long distance event. Everybody in this forum knows it - with one exception.
When a sprinter runs a 10000m just for fun in 50 minutes during his winter training, he has not become a long distance runner - but he has run a long distance event.
Long-distance running, or endurance running, is a form of continuous running over distances of at least 3 km (1.9 mi). Physiologically, it is largely aerobic in nature and requires stamina as well as mental strength. Within e...
