Read the article. It tells you that most of the women remained desperately poor, and some had health problems related to pregnancy.
aha so what was the whole point in banning it? If the point is to stop exploitation of women but yet they still remained desperately poor after it was banned.
Yes if you’re poor and good at being pregnant and someone wants you to be pregnant for them… sorry … stay poor
There are reasons most civilized countries outlaw surrogacy as it can be a gateway to baby selling.
France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Ireland, Australia all outlaw surrogacy.
Banning surrogacy is barbaric. It denies countless couples the joy of having a family, it encourages people with major risk factors for pregnancy to roll the dice, it prevents life-changing wealth transfers, and it contributes to the already cratering birth rate in these countries. But hey, at least people with no connection to the arrangement can feel good that someone who could really use $150k isn't being "exploited."
Lot of good responses here. What I like to do for myself and my athletes is to have speed dev be it’s own separate day. As others have mentioned because it is alactic it should not prevent a workout the next day. For example M-easy run plus 4-8 6-10 second hill sprints w/3 minute recovery Tue-Threshold W-easy Thu-Easy Friday- Threshold w/ 4x200 after at 1500 pace. Sat-off or eady Sun- Long Run

It’s almost impossible for me to comprehend. Are “the poor” being exploited when they work backbreaking manual labor jobs? Should we ban those?
It comes across as a specific subset of transitional belief holders that feel morally superior after they’ve had a traditional pregnancy and birth… and want to deny parenthood to those that don’t experience that.

I'm not sure the new baby is quite ready for this training. Give her a couple of months at least.

Disagree - the super shoe era has changed everything. Recovery is so much easier. Do they come in size 1?
is it possible… for there to be a letsrun thread that is only positive comments? If you don’t have anything positive to add to this, try not saying anything at all! Let’s take personal opinions about Emma and Joe out of it… they are both objectively going to make amazing parents and deserve nothing but congratulations for this exciting new chapter of their lives! Huge congratulations to the Bosshards
There's always someone. I'm in a Facebook discussion where I'm being criticized by women because I agree that women are as intelligent as men.
They're arguing with someone who is on their side.
Some of these losers here just hate when something good happens to someone else.
Foster care is not the same as having a child. Most foster care stays are temporary and under 1.5 years. It’s disingenuous to think the current demand for babies could be met by foster care.
What is shady about a legally and contractually defined, mutually consenting transaction.
The women and wannabe parents involved are adults. Enough with the infantilizing.
The trigger here for so many was the video itself.
In the video you see Emma and Joe dressed nicely as a newborn baby is pushed towards them by someone you don't see. Emma scoops up her baby as though it was a fresh delivery of flowers. The optics of the video do make it seem like Emma "purchased" her baby. We don't see the surrogate, and because Emma did not have the baby, we don't see her exhausted in the hospital, but rather dressed in jeans and a sweater. The video makes it look like a baby was cooked up just for her and she paid for it because she had the money to do so.
My wife and I adopted a baby from birth. We were at the hospital the day of the birth. Had a video been taken of us as our son was brought to us it would have looked nearly identical to the video Coburn posted except that we were seated.
The idiots criticizing Coburn and her husband because of optics are just as bunch of morons as those criticizing them for surrogacy in the first place....only they are more stupid.
Posting a picture of your new baby is not an invitation for the insults.
What you saw was not a picture a new baby. It was a video that focused on Emma and her discussing surrogacy on her public instagram account. She's a minor celebrity so her instagram account isn't just viewed by friends and family.

So you think she deserves insults because of this?
It looks like she was picking out her American doll or a build a bear. Yea hope you’re right about medical reasons. If they can share the post with the background music and all they can also say why they went that route
Why does she need to explain anything? Maybe she simply didn't want to. None of anyone else's business.
Why is it not someone's else business if someone does something evil?
Have you ever considered why its illegal in most of the world? No seriously think of it. This is just another way of the rich exploiting poor women. I do not need to write an opinion piece on it because the consensus on this is well established but in the US no one cares. Even the social justice crowd seems fine because it benefits the rich.
Its illegal to sell parts of your bodies e.g. for Organ donation. Surrogacy and pregnancy in general are some of the highest risk to die for women. No one that is not financially desperate would ever take that risk on. So its just exploiting women from poor background even more so.
I'm not even for banning it completely. But it needs to be strictly regulated and only for medical reasons of absolute infertility.
Many people don’t have a problem with it. You do you. Let them do theirs. Don’t impose your sense of right and wrong on others
You've just imposed a moral vision that no else can. Not morally neutral at all
