I get the money thing- they're pros and maybe they would have to miss a paid race for this but I really miss the days where everyone was at World Cross.
Look back to the 1983 race (great course, too) and in the 1970's.

Pretty much this. Coe and WA's attempts at parity to get non-Africans more interested have achieved nothing. Athletes aren't properly incentivized to participate, and keeping it at this point of the annual calendar doesn't help at all.
We're just lucky anyone in our hemisphere is interested in streaming or broadcasting this, even at 5 am on a Saturday. Loading it up with ads is the only way it almost pays for itself, given the audience. There was no way to watch this event live except in-person 20 years ago. Even 10 years ago?
Could someone explain why in the Senior Men´s race, there were only 14 countries competing and one of them was Fiji who scored 100, 102, 104, 105 and 106th out of 107 finishers? Why do so many countries with exceptional talent opt out of fielding a team?

The U20 race is a joke. Everyone knows that the Africans are NOT under 20. They've been age cheating for decades, making a farce out of junior competitions.
Gosh are those Kenyan women boring in interviews, all about the team, the team and I'm so happy and once more the team.
Western countries have individuals with an own idea and style of talking, competing for their country, but talking with a characteristic personal touch.
Kenyan, also the Ethiopian, seem drilled to be non descript, especially the women, so0o boring.

In my opinion Kiplimo is best when he sits in the field until say 800m out and then makes the long run for home. Unfortunately for him another guy (with a similar surname) can do the same.
I don´t think the 2 last 5000m finals were 400m races.
In Eugene a Norwegian runner took the lead 900m out and squeezed the pace before he ran away in the last bend.
In Budapest the Ethiopians set a high pace from 2000m out so these historical fast times were run:
last 2000m 4:56.69,
last 1600m 3:54.14,
last 1000m 2:21.07,
last 800m 1:50.65
last 400m 52:45
last 300m 39.09
last 200m 26:20
Last 100m 12.45
But unfortunately for the Ethiopians the same Norwegian ran away from them again this time over the last 300m beating a Spaniard of Moroccan heritage on the last meters for the gold.

I hope he will run both the 10,000m and the 5000m. The best guys should go for the double when it is possible.
Regarding your comments on Cheptegei in other posts today: Remember past performances (WRs and Gold medals) aren´t a guarantee for future performances.
If Cheptegei doesn´t up his game he won´t medal in Paris. We might have seen peak Cheptegei.

I remembered it coming down to the last 400, so I went back and watched the race. The last 2k was only that fast because the last 800 was fast. With 1k to go, they split a 62, and the lap before that was a 63. From 4000-4200, they were going 61s pace. You can even see in your splits, if the last 800 was 1:50.65, and the last 1600 was 3:54, then they were running 62s the other 800. The Ethiopians definitely didn't set a hot pace from 2k out. Jakob is incredible, but after 8km of rounds and a 3:29 1500 in his legs, even he wouldn't be able to close a 5k with a final 800 of 1:50 (58/52 splits) if the pace was actually hot from 2k out. Heck, even that 800 shows that most of the time came from the last 400m being so fast. Until the last lap he was on track for a 4:02 last 1600, and he turned it into a 3:54.
A hot pace from 2k out is sub-60s. They weren't running sub-60s until 800 out.
I just turned on Peacock and what appears to be a Kenya/Ethiopia fun run is on. It's funny. There are hay bales that some runners jump and some run around. What fun! Now they are running something called a "mixed relay" Who new running could be so entertaining!
I would like to point out that Reid Buchanan finished 2 minutes and 18 seconds behind the winner. This means that he would have been lapped TWICE on the track. Over a half mile back.
On a positive note he would have won the women’s race by 38 seconds. Go Reid.
He finished ~halfway through the field. Weird take on someone who qualified for this race (more pros are welcome to race USA XCs) & has focused on the longer distances on the roads the last several years.
I thought Kelati was great today. Could have finished top-10 if that was her goal. Paid the price for trying to contend up front. Gotta pick a lane in the recap harping on an American not finishing in the top-10. Could've happened today.
Also another weird obsession in the write up harping on where everyone was born & crowning a fake award (non-African winner). Just cover the race like a normal outlet. If someone has a big performance, cover their run. It's really not that hard.
