Yes but at least CEO broke 4 min mile once. We can't crap on that. And I always thought his Vanilla Ice persona was kind of tongue in cheek. Yeah kind of stupid and not entertaining but fairly harmless.
“Alpha males only. No beta males.” Is worse than the “misogyny” new gen posted. Everett “Daddy’s money” Smulders is kind of the worst. it’s easy to train hard when your dad foots the bill for your home, wedding, bike, gear, travel, etc… he fell out of relevance and is back at his old high school begging to attention.
Yup. Smulders wasn’t and isn’t good enough to get attention on his own achievement. Rode the coattails of actually fast people like Waleed and all of Tinman. Built his whole bs thing off of trying to pick a fight with the most popular/viewed training group bc he knew could suck views off of their fame. Dudes a cringey parasite
I'm not sure that's accurate. Jamarcus only started following spotlight and Andre either late yesterday or today, after people had been DMing New Gen to point out the link between Jamarcus and Ryder. Spotlight/Andre has gotten mixed up in some high school runner drama online in the past. I get the sense that Jamarcus just started following those accounts to throw people off.
I am mindful that falsely accusing a 17 year old of posting things he's not is crap behavior, and I did think seriously before posting Ryder's name here. I think what made me feel more comfortable doing so is the fact that neither New Gen nor Ryder have responded to inquiries about the Jamarcus account to deny it's him or explain anything. They've ignored DMs asking about it, which feels like a strange thing to do if he's innocent.
the violence against young women part you are right about. I think thats a definite stretch. However there are videos of the head guy for New Gen being homophobic, misogynist, and laughing at a racist interpretation to his question.
100%
the pics are stupid, not funny, and not relevant to running, but the domestic violence angle is taking it too far
the actual issues are the prior problematic stuff (new gen track coverage is going to the biggest regular season cross meet and shoving a mic in peoples faces with bigoted jokes??) and the fact that the camp itself is creepy
Going back thru NewGen and it’s counselors’ posts, I see Nikki Hiltz was featured in NewGen’s magazine and on their Instagram posts, and both Hiltz and Emma Gee featured in some of the counselors posts. It seems like something else entirely may be going on here…
I’m not sure what Ben Crawford is doing to change the sport. I liked it when they post running content on Youtube. But now it seems like their priority now is to sell magazines that no one buys and host after Nats parties that get new gen kids wasted.
the Nats party incident was swept under the rug surprisingly quickly. Would not be shocked if Nike had some pull with the hushup there.
There are a lot of comments on this thread saying the photos themselves aren't too bad, but I disagree.
New Gen has a platform, a brand, and is trying to "grow the sport." With that platform comes responsibility for the image they portray. Brands can't and don't just put content out and claim it's art. I don't want to say everything needs to be PC, but are photos of bullying really what you want to use your platform to elevate? Bullying/ hazing isn't cool and fun, it's mean spirited and harmful.
Didn't anyone else notice that the photoshoot was about bullying, then when the topic was criticized by Emma, the responses from the burner accounts were literally internet bullying? Isn't this a perfect example of why this theme is not appropriate for their audience (primarily high school and college students)?
If you cannot create edgy, cool, interesting content without shoving a girl by her hair into a locker, you're not very creative. Plenty of brands and creators put out exciting and captivating content without punching down or portraying something harmful. Do better.
1. A way to be friends with the fastest high school male runners in the country as to potentially have access to them in their college careers and beyond for content / clout
2. A way to have access to attractive female high school runners, full stop.
Like with most things, I'm sure the truth is somewhere in the middle.
Emma has a point. Were the posts in poor taste and potentially harmful? Yes. Did they respond horribly? Absolutely.
Are the NewGen guys "groomers?" Probably not. I don't know Ben, but I know Matt and Cole and they're great dudes. Yes, this photoshoot was an oversight/a mistake/immature. But let's not burn these guys at the stake.
I didn't actually see the burner account comments, sounds like they were awful. But if it was Ryder's burner why would he follow himself? Defeats the purpose of a burner. My guess is some misogynistic high schooler.
Lastly, I missed their now-taken-down apology. Does anyone have a screenshot?

the giving kids booze accusation from another post is obviously problematic if true, but based on publicly available information, the diffference I see between Billy and Ben is that it seems like Billy is hired by actual companies to be a sort of emcee/entertainer at hs meets, whereas Ben is just on his own trying to make himself into this pied piper for high school runners
I think the thing is, if you’re a man in your 30’s, you don’t need to be best buddies with high school runners. It’s like go make friends with other men in their 30’s
Also I think it’s ironic that the new gen guys like to call Centro immature, meanwhile they’re playing Instagram photo shoot with high schoolers. Centro has an Olympic gold medal, compared to him all the new gen guys are just internet trolls
