Well, duh. But it doesn’t look good for them unless their guys improve more than expected.

Districts or state qualifying meets.

The state does a nice job of assigning 3 top 15 teams in each meet so it doesn't really matter which district they are in.

Y’all are completely forgetting the girls team that will challenge Johnston. But that’s ok.

Hempstead and Johnston will be 1st and 2nd well clear of 3rd.

Dbq Senior should be in the mix. I'd pick them over Hempstead based on returning varsity runners. Since I think Hempstead lost 3, 5, 6, 7 to graduation they will need some incoming studs or some JV runners who step it up; their #5 last year was their MVP in my mind as she made huge strides from junior to senior year and she made the Mustangs unbeatable in 2022. Hempstead will have a second Leitzen and a second Henneberry this year and if they run like their sisters... they could be really good. That Senior pack will be tough, and if they all can improve just a bit over last year or a few have breakout seasons they could push Johnston. Johnston still has to be considered the favorite, though.

So Hempstead has a 42 point lead on senior through 1st 3.

I don't think Senior will be among the top 3 teams. Three other schools are capable of scoring less than 25 points through 3 runners. That is tough to beat. It will all come down to their 4/5's, and Johnston's depth makes them the favorite. On the other hand, there were some big improvements in track. It will be interesting to see how it translates to xc.

I agree. The state is not deep. Most of the top 1500/3000 meter runners graduated so having 3 front runners on a team is likely where the difference will happen because average girls will not put up big numbers for 4th and 5th.

Anyone know when district host sites get announced? It was this same Wednesday last year

I think Cedar Falls will beat Ankeny if transfer Aldamak gets to run for their varsity.

Johnston ahead of Valley?
Not sure about that.
Valley returns there 1-4 + another 10:11 3200 runner.
Johnston lost their 1-3 but they did develop some depth during track. They always seem to have guys come out of nowhere. But they will need to developer some front runners.
