Koko looked great, Piccirillo had nice move at the end.

I didn't think Tuohy looked that relaxed in the beginning, but agree she didnt completely fall apart. The last 400 though she had no kick, especially the last 150. It reminded me of some of her earlier college 1500s but with a much faster pace.

All that said, 4:08.29 is a fine time for a season opener.

Rough outing for SM. 13th place in 11:12. Winner ran 9:48. she was off the pace early, looking at the splits.

Darn. I predicted 4:02. I will admit that I am a moron. I hope it is still coming. I guess I get a bit too optimistic and overestimate her performances.

Her (Touhy) time yesterday was 13th best NCAA time all-time and best of the season thus far among all D1 women. That's not too bad for 1st race of the outdoor season.

That is an odd thing to say considering Tyynismaa just dropped a PR in the 5k. She was also injured last year and still working her way back through the fall.

I noticed after race Tuohy did not go up to runners and shake/high five them as she typically does only to KK. I think she was unhappy with results and a bit spent. No doubt she will learn from this up against 1st 2nd place more experienced competitors

I'd generally agree with you, but women who are dealing with these type of issues usually can't sustain high levels of performance for multiple years, and these two haven't suffered any real declines, have they?

Those titles were probably worth it in cross but at some point the competitive culture they have created in upper years of program and demands of competing for spots at practice eventually impact the program.

Where is semihaze? Did he get banned again?

I think this loss is going to be good for Tuohy. Koko is such an incredible talent, and not too much older than her, that it may help her gauge where she needs to be in order to take it to the next level, especially with her kick.

What does that mean? For now, 2:09 seems to be too fast a pace for her so she needs to improve her fitness just like any other runner that’s trying to move up a level. The 2nd half of your last sentence has no real meaning.

What struck me is how suddenly she slowed at 800 - went for 32.5ish per each 200 to 34.5 then held that until last 200.

Yeah, kind of an even paced positive split over the last lap or so. I’m not sure what it tells us other than she couldn’t accelerate during the last lap.
