Rojo allowed this thread to stay up so we would have an opportunity to discuss the moderators. Then…the moderators respond by deleting posts on this thread willy-nilly. I must ask who is in control of this site?
Agreed. The conservatives get more of their posts deleted yet we liberals don't. We complain or cry racism to get it restored. Wait, what????
You are confused. This is a predominantly right wing site. But the Right are rarely aware of their inbuilt bias - they think they are the arbiters of fact and truth - hence the moderators think they are being fair and impartial.
Yup, lefties are never biased, it's actually impossible because they are too intelligent to make mistakes.
The practice of deleting posts deemed “irrelevant” by moderators is self-defeating, subjective, and inhibits real discussion.
A few weeks ago, I started a thread on whether world class performance required training to begin in the pre-pubescent stage of development. Here it is.
Discus. I think this counts for almost every sport, probably including long distance running. There are probably a few outliers who take up a sport in late puberty and still become world class. But those people are few and fa...
Four pages of replies, and not a single deletion or irrelevant post. I mean, Malmo was rude, but there is nothing unusual about that, and his opinion was legitimate. In fact, most of the posters disagreed with me, and it made for a very interesting thread.
In this sense most posts “police themselves.” If it’s a serious post, it probably will get serious replies. If it’s a silly post, it probably will get silly replies. There will always be a trolls around, that’s just how it is. And frankly, I don’t care if my post attracts a few trolls. That is a price I’m willing to pay for good and open discussion.
As it is now, we allow a very small number of moderators to determine what is relevant, and what isn’t, and invariably wind up deleting posts that are worthwhile.
My previous post was deleted for being “low content.” That is wrong. Here is my post, with a couple of changes. Rojo, please decide for yourself whether this is low content.
I believe the current policy of deleting posts considered “irrelevant” by moderators is wrong, self defeating, and removes potentially useful or interesting discussion.
Consider the below thread. I began it a couple of weeks ago to ask whether elite athletes need to be training before puberty to be successful at the highest level. Not a single post deleted, not a single troll post. Lots of great discussion though. Many of the posters disagreed with me, but this made for a very interesting and pertinent discussion on athlete development.

And if there had been jokes or troll posts, I would not have complained. That is the price of doing business on a website that encourages discussion. And sometimes it’s funny anyway. I mean, either a discussion forum is for discussion, or it isn’t. If it is, we can’t be deleting dozens of posts in a single thread, because someone, somewhere, seems them “irrelevant.”
Let’s say trolls “capture” your thread. Maybe it wasn’t all that interesting anyway. Maybe the OP can ask a question to get it on track. Or maybe…the OP just needs to bite the leather strap and endure it. It’s part of living in a free society. You don’t always get to regulate discussion.
Unbelievable. Rojo specifically allowed this thread as a place to discuss the moderators. The moderators respond to his dictum by deleting almost every post.
Too heavily moderated. Free speech is being stifled.
I mean, I like free-speech too, but that isn’t my main complaint. Rojo is under no obligation to run the site as I or anyone else want it. But I can’t help but think they were missing something interesting and just plain fun by allowing the moderators such control. This has gone from being a rollicking, free-wheeling, lightly moderated site, to the most oppressively moderated site I’ve ever been on. It’s not a good change, in my opinion.
There are things they can do to reduce requirement for moderation, the main one being Registered posters only. However, they won't as it will reduce the number of posts and traffic, in other words, they are happy for arguments and troll posts to happen in first case.

I wouldn’t want to require registration. It would probably decimate the site overnight.
Plus it would eliminate quality trolling, which is an important part of the LRC experience.

The advantage of registration on other sites has been a much tighter community. Trolling is only 'quality' because the threads are devoid of constructive debate without registration anyway.
Their main reason for non registration is ad revenue.
