I want to confirm to concerned NOBODY wears masks here not in grocery stores, not on public transport and not at any other place
"Don't pay attention to the people wearing masks in Seth's video from Rotterdam! Take it from me, an unregistered commenter named 'Abcd123456'."
When I crossed the border on train from Germany to Netherlands first announcement was. You can remove your masks now. Not a single person from maybe 50+ stayed in mask.
I do think comparing (total miles) run at marathon pace or slightly faster/slower during a training cycle might be an interesting metric to predict failure or success.
I agree. That was an interesting little tidbit that kind of got lost in the mix as this thread devolved over the last couple pages. I don't know much about Matt Fox as a runner, but I do like the sweat elite channel. I don't have a horse in this race but I'm casually watching to see his results vs. Seth.
Re. nutrition, I don't think he practices it in training (please correct me if I'm wrong, i haven't watched all his videos) because he's more than a little disordered w/ eating. This is obviously mentioned a lot through the thread.
Anyway, I do actually believe him when he says the 'portion sizes' were an issue GI-wise. Not because they were large portions, but because they were larger than his usual ridiculously small portions. If you live off nuts and some leaves most of the time, with a small flapjack type thing in the morning, then yeah a regular pasta dish with regular toppings and actual oil (even in perfectly healthy amounts!) might mess your stomach up if you run a marathon soon after. Same for concentrated carbohydrate sources like gels - even people without long-term eating disorders have issues digesting those sometimes.
Forget about the mask thing now for the sake of the argument, because yeah tons of places don't require it and it isn't as big of a deal as it once was.
Fact is, he's done that crap throughout the whole pandemic, well before vaccines were out and omicron plowed through everyone. It's obvious he is very selfish and immature and cares about self promotion above pretty much all else.
It sounds like I'm just a hater between this and my other comments, but on the whole I'm glad he makes videos and do find joy from some of them, and clearly tons of others do too. It is just infuriating because with a little self reflection he could have way better content and training.
Imagine how great it could be if he forgot about pumping out 20min videos every single day, read some books and took the time to digest them, planned a legit training cycle, and cut back to like 2 vids a week of meaningful content. With the talent and enormous platform he has, I feel like he owes it to himself and the running community to do that, but idk if his financial situation will ever allow him to
Seth is an interesting guy to follow because he sits at the crossroads or immense natural talent and the worst training habits I have seen. I dont know how slogging 140 miles be week at 9:30 pace are going to help run a marathon at low 5 pace. Good luck with that. I'm predicting 2:32:33 and a 30 minute video full of excuses. The sad thing is he could pick up a book and followed canned plans and run better times. I shudder to think he might coach some day.

Tommy Hughes can run 2:30 at age 61! Granted he’s a huge outlier at that age, but I’m sure he understands the nutrition and hydration regimen for his marathons having a PR of 2:13 at his peak.
Looks like he hasn't given himself any time to acclimatize to the timezone. Going west to east is a lot harder to adjust. Should have been there from Mon/Tue at te latest.
Jet lag is my #1 of the excuses he will have for failure. I don't know how many days he gave himself before the race when he went to Amsterdam in 2019 though. Maybe jet lag doesn't affect him. But I'm still putting it in the top slot of excuses.
Seemed very upbeat in today’s video. Feeling good about my 2:17:29 prediction. I definitely do not understand all the negativity. Why can’t we cheer the guy on? If he runs another 2:59 or whatever, who cares? At least he is out there putting in effort and giving everyone here something to enjoy, whether you enjoy supporting him or hating on him.
Why on earth should we just mindlessly cheer him on instead of predicting what we think? We are not oblidged to be cheerleaders for everyone with a youtube channel.
I'll cheer for Reed Fischer to hit goal. Dude has put in work and from that Q&A tinmom vid, is balancing a pro career with working multiple jobs and married life. He comes across as a guy trying to grind his way to his goals and that is admirable/likeable, even if a lot of the other tinmoms are the opposite of likeable. Plus dude eats pop tarts pre workout. That is relatable. I'm a cinnamon donut guy. I feel you Reed!
Seth as someone mentioned above is a talented guy who seems to waste it with stupid training and excuses. He's also a content 'creator', who seems to completely lack creativity, as evidenced by how much of every video is filled with the fast forward making coffee opening cupboards in the dark routine and yawn inducing family stuff. At least mountain based vids have nice scenery. His road stuff is the worst thing for a creator - boring.
Just add in a dig about the caffeine gels too. C'mon Seth - you should not be hitting a race without a tried and tested nutrition plan. Blaming the gels for upsetting your tummy is a joke. That sh*t should be dialled in and the least of your concerns. How you gonna coach if you can't even nail your own in-race nutrition? Just tell people to wing it on the day? Nothing new on race day is like one of the oldest running tips around.
