Definitely sandbagged. Thomas did this before. I think the negative response was so overwhelming that it finally penetrated the illusion that Thomas would be hailed as some sort of hero.
Here is an interesting article on this subject that came out a couple of years ago. As a female in sports myself, while I will never be okay with having biological men in women's sports and I hope that it never fully comes to fruition, I very much respect Bearden's efforts to essentially make herself a scientific test subject to see just how much impact transitioning as a male has on her athletic performance, especially over time. Also, she has my respect because she sees things from the women's point of view whose sports she wants to be part of, she sees the inherent unfairness there and she RESPECTS it. McKinnon by contrast, pushes and shoves her way in similar to Thomas and a number of other trans athletes, showing blatant disregard to the women whose sports they're trampling all over which does nothing to help the trans movement although strangely they seem to think it does. Anyway, it's worth a read if you've got the time:
These transgender cyclists have Olympian disagreement on how to define fairness (usatoday.com)
A woman with a penis doesn't really have a case as to why they should be allowed in a lactation room. What would be the point? What exactly would they be lactating?
By excluding transwomen from lactation rooms, you are denying them access to a place women have traditionally used, including for purposes beyond breast feeding such as socializing with other women, thus denying their identity as women.
I think it's bonkers, but that's the argument.
Yup, that's what they say. But it's BS.
Also, for the record, workplace lactation rooms are NOT for breastfeeding or socializing with other women. They're for women employed outside the home to pump breastmilk into containers to take home and to be fed to children later on.
Workplace lactation rooms are meant to serve three main ends:
1) provide breastfeeding women at work with a place to pump that's hygienic, which the spaces women were previously forced to use and still often are forced to use - workplace toilets, change rooms, supply closets, janitor's closets, etc - are not;
2) provide breastfeeding women with a setting at work that is private, dignified and comfortable enough to make it easy to relax so their milk will "let down" without delay and they can produce the amount of milk they need to in a way that is time efficient for employee and employer alike;
3) provide women at work with a safe place to store breastmilk until the end of the work shift, because if the milk is put in the regular break room fridge some creepy guy with a breastmilk fetish might steal it, or someone creepy in another way might sabotage it.
The main reason that some "women with penises" want access to workplace lactation rooms is that the majority of males who say they "identify as" women today are sexually attracted to women and most - most, not all, just most - have paraphilias that cause them find certain body parts and bodily functions of actual women to be extremely sexually arousing. Getting a chance to watch, listen, smell, study and take mental snapshots and mind's eye footage of biological women "in an up close and personal" way whilst we do things like pump breastmilk gives some "women with a penis" a special kind of erotic thrill that they euphemistically call "gender euphoria."
Just google "lactation porn." When I did so just now, I got 177 million results. Also, check out the way many males who claim to "identify as" women talk about their fantasies of having "mommy milkers" and "tiddies" in forums, blogs, books and performance pieces where they share their ideas about what they imagine it's like to be female.
Another reason some of the persons you describe as "women with penises" want in on places like workplace lactation rooms is that they know that having males in such a space would make most women extremely uncomfortable and distressed. For some males who claim to "identify as women," violating the personal boundaries of actual women and depriving us of privacy, dignity, safety, fairness and a sense of security is part of the thrill of "gender euphoria." As much as they say they are exactly like us in their hearts and minds, the truth is that many of the males who who say they "identify as" women and girls today really don't like us - and they don't see us as full human beings who deserve the same kind of respect in society that they expect and demand for themselves.
Also, some of these persons know that if males are given access to workplace lactation rooms for any reason, many working women who use and rely on spaces will wean earlier or stop breastfeeding altogether. Fact is, some males resent that women breastfeed our children, and resent that in most cultures only babies and young children customarily get to breastfeed. This is because they see women's breasts as body parts whose primary purpose is to provide adult and adolescent males with sexual pleasure. Also, some men have breastfeeding kinks and believe that if women are lactating, the breastmilk should go to them and not to small children.

I agree it sure doesnt pass the eye test. What is his best time in that event career wise?
I wish they would have an alternate race for people like her / him. More trans athletes would probably have the courage to come out, and this would be not only a solution for this particular situation, but also a real benefit to their community in general.
Transgender athletes want to compete as women and there is no possible compromise. A separate but equal approach is 100% a ban and impractical. Do people attending a track meet want a 35 minute intermission while 1-2 transgender athletes race a 10000m?
I’m not advocating for transgender female athletes but a separate category is not a possible solution.
What is so striking about this is the sheer narcissism of Thomas and "her" supporters. Thomas has acted like a selfish douchebag. Why do any of us have to give a damn that the guy has some emotional or psychological problem? That's life. Big freaking deal. Is it really worse than anorexia or major depression schizophrenia or a host of other disorders? But I don't see the NCAA and school administrators and the media twisting reality into a pretzel and insisting that 1+1=5 for them. Thomas is a fully developed biological male who was perfectly happy to cheat and bully smaller and weaker biological females and thought he was acting heroically until the reality of the backlash finally occurred to him. And his deluded supporters actually thought they were heroes also engaged in some noble civil rights fight that would be vindicated if not by logic or commonsense then by some supposed grand arc of history. The ends supposedly justified the means. The female athletes he cheated were told to shut up and clap and threatened with retribution by their universities and by the usual fringe social media crazies if they spoke up. Penn even told its swimmers to seek therapy. A complete circus all around to pander to one selfish jerk.
I would just like to preface this by saying I am completely humiliated by my former league, The Ivy League, to let this Lia Thomas situation continue. Also, noteworthy Maria Navritolova just spoke out saying an “asterisk” should be next to her result.
If there is one topic that can unite 90 percent of America, its this one. This is totally ridiculous and unjust. Needs to be like a 5 year adjustment period after sex change, before any competition.
For the NCAA, 5 years would require starting hormone treatments in 8th grade or going on multiple Mormon missions.

The Ivy League does not have the power to ban an eligible athlete.

For an Ivy League grad, you are a horrible speller! But I agree with you and "Maria."

“Lia is such a kind person,” Bailar said. “I have spent time with her, and she is so kind. She’s just compassionate. She is shy. She is an all-around very nice human, and I think people miss that. I know people miss that. They are painting her as some nefarious human that is trying to destroy women’s sport. She is just a woman who is trying her best in a sport that she loves. And she is a real person. I hate having to say that, but it’s true, and people have to treat her as such.”
To exclude transgender women, sports officials will have to know which athletes are trans and which are not. Organizations will have to come up with a way to test all female athletes. “What this is doing is creating this box of what a woman can look like, what a woman can perform like [and] what a woman can sound like,” he said. “And at what point is a woman [who is] too good going to be accused of being transgender and thrown out? At what point is a girl too fast, too tall, her bones too big, her shoulders too wide, her hair too short, her appearance too masculine? At what point are they going to be accused of being transgender?”
The thing that is pitiful is how much the media is gaslighting, which is now the norm. Supposedly it is "inconclusive" that a fully developed male athlete has a major biological physical advantage over female athletes. That fact that high school boys swim faster times than female Olympic champions is just a coincidence apparently. It is just an insult to everyone's intelligence. Nor do I perceive Thomas as a good person, but as a spoiled brat who has never been told no.
And at what point is a woman [who is] too good going to be accused of being transgender and thrown out? At what point is a girl too fast, too tall, her bones too big, her shoulders too wide, her hair too short, her appearance too masculine? At what point are they going to be accused of being transgender?”
That question is so dumb. First of all, if someone of college age transitions from male to female, there would be plenty of other people who know about it. It's not some kind of hidden secret. Short hair "Bob" becomes long hair "Cindy" and no one knows about it? C'mon. That makes no sense.
Second, even if theoretically someone was "accused of being transgender" it's pretty easy to do a chromosome test.

Both of those quotes are from a former transgender male athlete so it’s not surprising he supports Thomas. Check out the comments in response to articles about Thomas and you’ll see that about 99% are criticizing her and/or opposed to her being allowed to compete against women.
She blames the NCAA for not declaring Thomas ineligible but it’s not clear it had the power to do so which is why they tried to punt the decision to U.S.A Swimming.

Schuyler Bailar is not "a former transgender" person, though. Bailar is a female who still very much "identifies as" a man and is a professional evangelist for the Church of Gender Ideology.
By coupling the words "former" and "transgender" in describing Bailar, you've given the impression that Bailar might be one of the large and growing numbers of young people who have left the faith by detransitioning. In fact,some could easily read the words "former transgender" to mean that Bailar is now an apostate and might even be the trans equivalent of what Scientologists call a "suppressive person." When in fact, Bailar is very much a true believer.
Those who share and support Bailar's religious ideology say there is no such thing as "former transgender" and that it's a sin and heresy to use those two words together like that. They'd also say that by referring to Bailar as "a former transgender" athlete you've not shown proper deference to Bailar's claimed gender identity and have misgendered Bailar! That's downright transphobic.
So watch out, coz the sound you hear in the distance could well be the braying of the pitchfork-waving mob coming for you too.
