There has been criticisms of Mondo, some of it coming from me. However, the criticism of Mondo has primarily been along the lines of what people think is right/wrong or fair. The situation with Gu for Americans is personal because, for example, she changed her name to a Chinese name. Btw, Eileen, like David, Megan, Laura or whatever is the same no matter where go. Your name is your name and can only be changed because you choose to do so. There is no such thing as a Chinese version of Eileen. She has given interviews to Western media in Mandarin using an interpreter when she speaks perfect English. And obviously renouncing her U.S. citizenship and becoming a citizen of a 'communist' country is something that no one who loves America could possibly be comfortable with.
A side note, I have I identified a likely wumao on this board, who in matter of minutes will counter ever thing I said.
Again. This is sexist, racist nonsense. Your complaint is she adopted a more Chinese name, which would make total sense if there is no Chinese version of her birth name.
She has no responsibility to maintain her birth name just because you identify with it more. She has no responsibility to assume the ideological pressure of American exceptionalism vs communism. She has no responsibility to speak in English just because she knows English. You people think you have some level of ownership over her identity because she’s American, a girl, and half-Chinese.
She identifies closely with her mother’s lineage. That’s not a sin, no matter how much white American men think it is.
