It's not a hospital. It's a house that families can stay at while the kid is in the hospital. They also have a lounge area at the hospital.

The kid is still getting treatment at the hospital. None of that has changed. And the family wasn't evicted. The dad just went on a social media binge when he found out about the policy.

His parents are not vaccinated. The vaccine does not prevent you from catching or transmitting COVID. What possible purpose does mandating a shot that does not do what you're hoping to achieve serve?

The kid is literally more likely to be infected by a vaccinated person than his own parents.

I can't imagine being dumb enough to take the time to calculate the numbers for just morning rush hour and then feeling like you've proved something by declaring you're only 5x as likely to die of COVID as you are from driving to work between 6 and 9 on any given day.... Bear in mind most people don't even know anyone who knows anyone who's died in a car crash on the way to work....

Okay, so yeah you did a nice job proving that by numbers you are more likely to die of covid than in a car accident. But the fact that it's actually that close and yet we don't even mildly think about even entertaining the smallest of thoughts on not using motorized vehicles yet freak the heck out about covid should tell you we have lost our ability as a society to assess risk rationally.

5X isn't particularly close. I would think that since automobile fatalities are relatively common, anything that occurs 5x a much should be significant cause for concern. The only things on the NSC list that have a greater chance of causing death are heart disease and cancer.

I really don't care about the "while driving to work" piece that you and the other guy seem to deem so important. I'm looking at the overall numbers. Assuming your numbers are accurate (and I really don't care enough to confirm), 28,500 is very very close to 25,000. That's where my post comes in.

No it's not. We were in the 'low' to 'medium' zone for most of the last 6 months while the mask mandate was in place. We could theoretically have zero COVID cases for the next month, and the mask mandate would remain in place "just in case."

Yeah, it seems like it could be a bit excessive and overcautious. Then again, Washington has one of the best records on Covid in the country. One of the lowest death rates in the country, half as many as the national average.

This virus is going nowhere and we have been told that by experts for a long time. It will remain. But I'm done playing this whole game of 6 feet, masks, and shut downs all the time. I work in a hospital, that's the only time I see it as reasonable to wear one, and the only place I will.

but, umm, nobody's afraid to get in their car. Nobody's afraid to go outside. We put on seatbelts and clean our windshields - and we protect outselves and each other. We check our blindspots, and obey the speed limit (sort of), and drive like we give a crap about the other people on the road. That's how we all get to work.
