This is ridiculous haha. If any runner turns down their spot for her they’re just as dumb as she is. Good lord this petition is idiotic.

Hopefully the fourth place finisher at trials isn’t so dumb as to even consider this.

Yeah, this has been the reaction from the rest of the world. There's a lot of sympathy for Richardson, and admiration for the way that she has owned her actions and accepted the ban. But the mewling and whining from the US media and some commentators has been embarrassing. At least the LRC message board is mostly on the same page as Richardson herself.

I can sign to this young runner at condition she do a spiritual revolution (find her true nature as she is lost now in the cancel culture).

Did not know that about SAFP. I’d have much more sympathy for that situation since it was a pill prescribed from her dr than this ordeal. Having said that SAFP is without a doubt a ped user. I’m fine with peds, no doubt richardson is also on them, just can’t sit back and act like SAFP is clean as a whistle tho lol.

SCR deserves to sit at home and watch Sydney take the Olympics by storm.

It is, in most of the world it is listed as a narcotic and is also illegal. USA is not the world. What a drug is deemed in some states doesn't speak for every country. That's why changing this rule will be difficult, even though I do believe they should consider changing it. IAAF and WADA are international organizations that are made up of national athletic bodies, thus their policies will be influenced by the legal framework of most if these member countries. Had it been privately owned like the NBA or NFL it would be easier to change the rules

You don't wait until there's a problem to protest the rules. The reason you don't in this case is because there may have been other runners who denied themselves cannabinoids only because of the rule. Hopefully this is a wake-up call for everyone: WADA was an invention of PR needs. Look at the history (the actual history, not the origin story on WADA's site)

Thank you. Seems like nothing prevents her from being named to the relay team. Under the circumstances that seems like a reasonable outcome. WADA has clearly “decriminalized” THC. In general a 30 day ban is a joke, barely a slap on the wrist. I’m sure WADA had NO intention of an athlete testing positive for THC being banned from the Olympics.

This issue is sooooo far removed from being a race issue. It's amusing to me that people don't understand it.

1. It's not a law, it's a rule. A rule that governs everyone equally.

2. It's a global rule, governed by a global body. The fact that US laws were put in place 70-years ago have no bearing on a global body instituting rules for sport.

3. US anti doping rules have zero bearing on the Olympics, because the US doesn't govern the Olympics. In the same way that the USOC had to back down in the Shelby Houlihan situation, because the US laws, rules, and courts, don't govern the Olympics.

4. Because it's a rule and not a law, Sha'Carri had a choice in the matter. She chose to sign up for a sport where part of the rules are that you don't use marijuana.

5. Sha'Carri used marijuana at a time when she was 100% certain to be tested, because EVERYONE who makes the team gets tested.

This issue is entirely on Sha'Carri Richardson, and no one else.

I disagree that rules are created in a vacuum divorced from the law and prevailing cultural norms and attitudes. WADA has been moving away from punishing users of THC. They have increased the threshold and have decreased the penalty. I am sure those in power at WADA are horrified that the 30 day ban is costing an athlete the Olympics. This is clearly a situation in which the punishment does not fit the crime, and from the public statements made, I think the governing bodies agree. They could change the rule immediately and retroactively if they wanted. That would serve justice in this situation more than having SR miss the games for a minor infraction. Also, please stop with the nonsense that SR had a choice in the matter regarding signing up for the sport. This is how she makes her living and she, and all the athletes, are forced to abide by a set of rules, many of which are intrusive, abusive and do not further fairness in competition.

If she was the number five runner in Canada you wouldn’t care.

Once again thinking that some people should be above the rules because they are good and American.

She agreed to the rules. Everyone agreed to the rules. Everyone else competed within them. She didn’t. One month ban is fair.

Yea the rule is dumb, but it’s the rule.

She’s out of the relay pool. The two coaches already decided and the rules give them the sole discretion.
