Yes, this is a troll post but there is a grain of truth to it. By the mid-50s, most runners are so injured and banged up that it is kind of a joke to even give awards. I've always go to laugh at these 60+ runners who act like they've won the olympics when they win their age. I'm 67, have had my hip replaced and run twice a week, one run hard, one run long and easy and have never enjoyed running more , . I'll race hard but realize it is all in fun.
You laugh at other runners? Pathetic.
I respect all my fellow runners. We share in the magic.
If anyone deserves ridicule it is you with your fake knee and your two runs a week and your supposed "hard" racing. But I don't want to laugh at you. I feel sorry for you. It is a shame that at 67, only 2 years older than me, you are done.
Of all runners the ones I admire most are the oldsters that keep at it. It's no big deal to run fast at 25. It's cool at 50 and beyond.

no, quite sure he was shown the door, if you catch my drift.
And fwiw, i recognized the musical reference in your handle, and re-visited that classic on you-tube.
I still run because I like it......I compete because I like it......I have been running for 40 years because I like it........I am healthy and like it......Thats why us old dudes are still running.....wake up you silly youngsters.......

Anyone who isn't an East African trying to run competitively is pathetic!

You Coevett registering that handle and posting under it is pathetic.
We used to call that, your trying to keep your vile o p. afloat by reaching for any little bit of debris, "grasping for straws." Back in the old days. When we had just as many desperate characters looking to shore themselves up by putting down others as you have today.
It's you who extended the mild, inocuous allusion to "magic" to absurd lengths. Desperate moments, desperate measures?
Maybe you should move on into a thread that ridicules the times and accomplishments of early Olympic athletes in keeping with your theme of relativistic absurdity. They are some really old ones.
I'll support runners of all abilities! One nice thing about getting older is I generally care less about what other think about how slowly I'm running or that my shirt is 30 years old.
Based. Moved to a new city after college and joined the local running club. It had a lot of members so I was pretty stoked to make some new friends and find some fresh pu$$y. Turns out it was all 35+ married mothers with wrinkly faces and pot bellies. Very sad for me. Speaking as a young, virile 23 year old man-there is very little reason for me to interact with the post-collegiate running community and its armies of old codgers and 4/10 used goods sub-MILF status women.

Where does this rank in terms of most successful troll posts on LRC? I can't ever recall seeing more people take the bait more enthusiastically, myself included.
Of course...it's a bait post. Notice how he/she didn't post their differences on the "50+ Masters Training And Racing Open Forum," but instead starting their own thread to draw more attention.
Not too long ago, a clown started a similar thread on a bodybuilding forum. And I have a friend who is a competitive master cyclist who says he sees similar threads on cycling forums from time to time.
I would ignore he/she - it's pointless to argue with someone who is amusing themselves at other poster's anger & emotional rebuttal - not like this doesn't happen much on LRC though. Lol.
It's pretty damn impressive seeing the over 50 crowd here hit it hard and compete in various running events. You guys know what you're doing and competition breeds enthusiasm and determination - which is good for the aging body (keeps you young and feeling good, and the body likes physical challenges as it ages). Heck, if I could run like I used to, I'd be racing at my young age of 60.
After playing college football, I did 10 yrs of competitive BB & powerlifting before transitioning to distancing running & triathlons for about 25 yrs. Had to pretty much stop after some trauma-related injuries from a MV accident as well as chronic injuries from the years of running (I was a heavier runner). So, it's back to BB because I believe some of us have to being doing something competitive to have a purpose. There's seniors doing distance running, sprints, cycling, swimming, basketball & baseball leagues, flag football and so on.
If you train smart, eat very healthy, take supplements...age is really only a number.
You said it appears to be pathetic when you see old people run. Appearance does not necessarily equal reality especially when it is the realm of subjective opinions. Old "pathetic" runners are not hurting you. Ask yourself why it bothers you so much.
See, here is the deal: it is quite possible to set new PR's as a geezer, even if their absolute times are slower than in their youth. How? Because of the AGE GRADE. When one shows up at a local race, it is the AGE GRADE metric that sets the 'pecking order'; don't forget that. Thus a 60yr old breaking 20mins in a 5k road race is 'faster' than a 30-yr old only running 16:20 in the same race.
Don't ever forget that.

"Damn straight.
That and a pair or three of ridiculously expensive carbon fiber plated "cheater" shoes (the ones only someone with a lot of disposable income could afford), and I'm back in the game.
Well, almost.

Self reflection isn't part of his tool kit.
Seems like Nickyyy has gone to bed again. Sweet dreams and keep your hands above the blanket.

Is this a new rule? So now the older runners can be better? This is really exciting!

The competitive 30-yr olds, i.e., the ones there to 'race', are in those shoes, too.
The AGE GRADE performances are being adjusted down, moreso in the longer distances. We can arguably conclude the new shoe technology is effecting the AGE GRADE tables.

It's always been the rule. It just comes to the forefront when you get older.

So it is possible for the champion to be an old runner? Does everyone know that the 60 year old won the race? Does the 16 minute 30 year old guy realize that the 60 year old beat him? Does the 60 year old try to rub it in the face of the 30 year old? You are proving the OP’s point. The OP called it pathetic. Indeed.
