In sports being the better player/team matters only as long as you play by the rules. If Jakob was a real athlete, he would have voluntarily given up his Gold because this time there was no way he should have got it. Any other athlete would have not have had the power to overrule the holistic judgement of multiple judges (who were not Polish btw, they are from many different nations) like Jakob managed to do by elevating it to IAAF/Coe whose decision was affected by the threat of not running the 3000m.

The Polish federation never argued about Jakob taking a step outside the lane because he was pushed. They understand that. However, and they are 100% right in this, what they argue about is that Jakob pushed Ramzy's FIRST and grabbed him on his shirt FIRST without any reason other than trying to gain an advantage and passing in a place he shouldn't have been able to pass.

Jakob got nervous when he saw Lewandowski in the front and was afraid of being tucked in so did an aggressive move trying to get to the front that broke the rules.

What race did you watch? Remzys cut Ingebrigtsenn off and leaned his shoulder in. Ingebrigtsen only grabbed to keep from falling.

What would you do if you were working at European Athletics and Gjert comes to you and literally says "either you overturn this decision or we are going home!"? Jakob isn't anyone, he is the best European middle/long distance runner right now and has a massive following. He is incredibly important for the sport.

Threats suck, but you gotta admit they are effective.

Lewandowski is at the end of his career, he already won Gold 1500m Indoor he will be fine without it, whom I feel most sorry about are the athletes who got DQ'ed for the same rule but weren't getting overturned because they are not #1 in Europe or got Gjert as their daddy. Think about the Durch girl for example who stepped like 1-2 inches on the line not pushing anyone just misstep and got DQ'ed by camera proof, and there were I think at least 5 more who got DQ'ed that way in heats but no one cares simply because their VO2MAX and threshold is a bit lower than of the very best competitor in the field.

This strong lobby is the same thing that kept Armstrong safe for 20 years in cycling (and Marion Jones in sprinting), I just hope our sport isn't heading in the wrong direction by protecting the most important athletes and choosing to do so over the simple principle of "same rules for everyone".

Makes me really wonder how sick they really are, or if they just take meds for it because its a corticosteroid and has performance enhancing effects. Not accepting any losses due to rightful DQ's, constantly causing problems in track races, badmouthing other competitors, Gjerts comments like "running is 0 talent, it's all about training. My kids aren't any more talented than others" and so on etc. I just can't be a big fan of them anymore.
