And then came 2016 and he was the world #1 in the 1500 and gold in the 2 biggest meets of the year. Those instagram runners who are looking for clout have no right to be as cocky as him. No person is better than the other. But an accomplished/successful athlete has every right to be boastful because at least they have the hardware to back it up. Those that get offended that Centro is cocky are extremely insecure and wish they had what he has. Same with me, I wish I had his medals. Especially the olympic gold.

Most male runners are betas. It's not so much an insult as a statement of fact. Running that many miles a week naturally depletes your testosterone. Most runners couldn't hack it at other sports. They're thin, they're not particularly strong, and in many cases, their physiques mean they are mostly only attractive to girls who value that kind of aesthetic (most don't).
These betas see a guy like Centro who doesn't really fit the bill. He racks up medals, he didn't obsessively run mile after mile in high school, girls ask for his autograph - he's an alpha.
He runs poor races and tells the press that he's confident and knows where he's going, and then somehow he pulls out a medal months later. He's a gamer.
So what do the betas do?
They call him a doper. They allude to "Centro sauce," they conflate his actions with those dubious actions of other NOP members (although Centro has never been implicated), and they generally smear him as some cocky a-hole.
It's just jealousy.

No, Centro's victory is always a possibility when the race comes down to a kick. We've always known this. Is 3:50 incredibly slow, of course.

Give me a break. A time trial is not the same as a championship race. Centro is a smart tactioner. He's not just a great runner with a 3:30 PR he consistently placed himself in a great position for a medal. Genzebe has the world record but her race tactics did not consistently match her legendary time trials. An olympic Gold Medal is worth more than a world record. You will not always be a world record holder, you will always be a gold medalist(unless you get caught with drugs) The numbers don't lie. 4 championship medals, two of them gold is very hard to do. No other 1500m runner in history has that. Give Centro some respect. The ones defending the instagram runners are probably friends with them. Maybe they'll have their time. But until then they need to watch their ego until they can medal against the big dogs like Centro did.

I've skimmed the thread but haven't read it super carefully, so sorry if I missed anyone else saying this. Though I agree that Centro probably shouldn't have bothered responding, my guess is that he ignores 99.9% of the random cr-p thrown his way.
But this had to irritate him precisely because they're Oregon runners, his alma mater, and, probably more importantly, where he coached and from guys that he actually helped coach. I think that changes how personal this is ("this" being all the stuff that Cooper Teare was saying, then from there) as opposed to going off on some random kid. And though he probably should have let it slide, he said what most of us think and probably would think if it were us: who the F are these kids to be giving their coach and legendary alum all this cr-p?! There was no joking about what Teare said in the pod and all the stuff that has come after, not really.
Also, to the extent that it matters, Christman is class of 2016 in high school, so he's no 19 year old kid. More like an immature 22 or 23 year old.
