If you read earlier.... I've met Colleen several times and we have mutual friends. So yes, I know what she was going through. I shared she's a class qct because she never spoke poorly of the girls despite the treatment and exclusion she experienced.

Her outgoing personality was hard on the majority introverted team. I truly believe she was closer with Vanessa and Karissa, but by then she was already guarded. Regardless of her relationship with those girls, majority rules.

I don't believe this was a natural factor to her move, I think it helped make the decision earlier, but she's more valuable with a growing brand who will truly value her. Nike has so many other athletes and sport focuses. If she wants to be the face of a brand, she has to move

But seriously, where do you go when you trained your entire career with arguably the best US women's group and have been sponsored by the biggest brand? And you are still an elite runner in your prime? The only comparable group as someone else said is P Julian's group. Her blog post made it sound like she may not be sponsored by Nike any longer so that may not be an option.

Current employer refuses to match market offer since they have a stable of other stars.

Not likely with Puma. Alistair works with Kimbia and they dropped her. Most likely she goes with NB and trains solo at this point, so close to the trials . Not sure that Team Boss or other teams want to disrupt their chemistry leading up to the trials and olympics. If it's NB I doubt Emma would be thrilled with that, though. TBD

This is no different than a star player leaving a championship team to play for more money somewhere else. For example, you play wide receiver for the KC Chiefs and your $7 million per season contract has expired. You want a two year extension and a bump to $10 million a season. KC only offers a bump to $8 million for one additional year plus some incentives that could net you an additional $1 million if they win next year's Super Bowl.

Your agent gets a call from the Los Angeles Chargers. They want to feature you in their passing attack, have a young QB that will get better with experience, and feel that they are just a year away from playoff contention. They are offering you a 4 year/$40 million deal with the first two years guaranteed money. Plus, L.A. weather and lifestyle vs. Kansas City?

It's a tough choice but, you take the guaranteed money deal. Why? Fiscal security, a chance to put down roots, and the money guarantee is nice should you get injured.

Sorry but star employee? Colleen is the least successful person on BTC considering how long she’s been there.

She is the 3rd best steepler in the US. The analogy of a receiver in NFL who is the 3rd best in the NFL you would put down as not being a star? That is dumb.

colleen is not THE star but she is A star.

She has had a successful running career by any US standard. She also has made herself into a very marketable personality. And that's just not her appearance. She has put herself out there on SM and in other ways that the others truly haven't done.

She is one of the most well known and sought after US distance runners in the game right now.

I get what you're going for but that is a garbage analogy. Young star QB's burn out more often than they improve, the Chargers SUCK compared to the Chiefs, and if you're good enough to get offered $8 million a year at KC and you have a realistic shot at the next Super Bowl, you stick with KC. Every time. The year with KC is almost guaranteed to be a good one and you can make even bigger opportunities out of it for the future
