There was a girl who would run the last lap of her race and win, but wouldn't get enough DQ's for it to matter. The girl on our team would be up with her until then, and it was incredibly frustrating, but what can you do? That's the sport. It put her into tears sometimes, it was very frustrating.

Yes, they can. 20KM race walk is around 1:17-1:18. That puts them in the low 1:20's for a half mary. I would be very surprised if over half the people on this board could break 1:22-1:23.

racewalking is retarded. running is a natural thing. its the simplest most natural way for a human to go from one place the next. it makes sense for us to race for sport, at least as much as any other sport. probably even more than any other sport. running along with swimming is just a simple natural test of ones limits. racewalking is not natural, its a "fabrication". there is no point in testing ones limits through racewalking... just run damn it. whoever decided that instead of just doing the natural instinctive act of running to go from A to B he should walk as fast as possible by always keeping a foot on the ground should have been double tapped in the head on the spot... the person who decided it should be an olympic sport should battle to the death with the person who made that bullshit pole and streamer dancing thing an olympic sport with the winner getting double tapped in the head on the spot...
ok, i'm not a racewalking fan by any means, but that last post was just dumb. who cares about what is natural or not? this board wasn't intended to argue the point of whether this sport should be included in track or anything like that. all that this board was aruguing was the fact that the lead woman was lifting her feet. damn, start another board if you wanna argue other aspects to this sport. plus, i believe the rule is lifting 'according to the human eye.' so of course you could take a high speed camera and see she's lifting. then again, if you were to ever watch a racewalking event closely (and believe me, i have both in road races and on a track) then you would know it's not as easy to see sometimes that someone may or may not be lifting.

Well, I don't think anybody here is claiming that race walking is easy, that they are all pretending to race hard. And clearly there is less competition in these races compared to running races.
The point is that it there seems to be artificial restrictions that makes the race both silly and very subjective to inforce.
This drug cheating winner had no fouls or warnings from any of the judges, but the photos don't lie. It just shows how subjective this sorry waste of a race is. These are funds that could be put to better use by all teams involved. I'd rather watch ice dancing (but not synchro)

Have you ever seen some of the old time racewalkers? Those guys were monsters. THere wasa guy named Kanneburg looked like he could choke a lion. Walkers are bigger then distance runners and stronger. Oh and Ivanova is hot.

Walking is a joke and the public (and, for that matter, MOST of the athletic community) quite logically takes no interest in it whatsoever. A good percentage of "walkers" are doing no such thing a good percentage of the time. It's simply a perversely awkward form of running at a moderate speed. Who could possibly care about this?
The idea that "they have trained just as hard..." etc., has never held any water. People may train hard for--and feel passionately about--all sorts of useless activities that do not and should not be considered "sport." So bloody what?
I used to frown on all of the heckling of racewalkers that goes on here, but having watched the freakshow that was the men's 20K "walk" in Helsinki the other day, I have to concur that this sport has no place in elite track and field and should not fall under USATF sanction. It would be dispensable enough without the endemic cheating, but considering how few of these walkers are in fact walking, the whole scene is a laugh. Look how many people in any given elite walking race wind up disqualified - it's a large fraction and would be even bigger if everyone deserving DQs actually receieved them.
To the defenders, it doesn't matter that racewalkers train hard (so do a lot of athletes who don't come to prominence) and can outwalk - sometimes even legally - many runners. These things don't determine an activity's worthiness of inclusion in track and field, nor does the fact that racewalkers are using their legs, moving in circles, and being timed (stock-car drivers do this). I admit that my skeptical view is further colored by the fact that racewalkers in action look like arthritic robots, but if aesthetics were of the essence, expand the women's pole vault to include 10 entrants from every Euro nation and nix the walk altogether.

+ you can play as a handicapped male as well.Just think about it.the handicapped man has the weight of his other leg away thus higher vo2max.But the man with 2 legs could use the other leg a bit as navigation when speeding.It would seem a verry intresting sport to me.And dont laugh at me until you tryed it a mile.It hurts!!!!
