Well I’m weird maybe, but I always eat first thing when I wake up. Never feel right if I don’t.
If I have to run early I try to get up 30-40 mins before running and eat very light (like 100-200 cal.) Gets the goods flowing if you know what I mean.
But I think I’m unique bc it seems most people are fine not eating

The post meal is far more important than the pre-meal for performance purposes.
How could that possibly be true? How can your future performance differentiate between what was in your stomach right before or right after a prior run?

What about if you have an early race?
Parkrun (a weekly timed 5k) is at 9am and I usually don't eat much beforehand if I'm not giving it 100%. If I am going for a time, then I will get up at 6am to eat.
Absolutely zero need to eat before parkrunning, even if you're going all out. If your muscles don't have at least 20 minutes of good quality energy stored after eating the night before you have a serious issue!!
But there's no harm done in eating before - is just not necessary (I've got >150 parkruns to my name and eat nothing before them whether I'm going for a PB or just cruising round with family)
Banana and a glass of water shouldn't take more than a minute or two.
For a morning training run. Is it essential or are your fuel reserves from the previous night's dinner good enough to sustain you.

Yes I do it all the time. I don’t worry about eating anything until it gets around 2 hours.
agree-8 oz of water and some gatorade and good to go usually unless going over 2 hours...I see these people on trails with water vests and gels-kinda comical. the carbs from the night before should easily fuel the next day's run
