Actually, if you're looking for performance in 800, you would be better to look at sodium citrate, which is a lactate buffering agent actually shown to improve performance in 400/800-type races. In too high doses, it can make you throw up, so you need to experiment in race-like conditions, but it has been shown to work in scientific tests.
