Texas High School
Boys All-Time Top 10
Please let me know of any additions or corrections to the list.
Might want to account for the fact that half of Texas "teenage" athletes are probably 20 by the time they graduate from high school/bible school and take their 550 SAT/1.5 GPA credentials to the NCAA.
Excuse me. In 2000 6 HS girls (in a state of 600,000) ran under 11:00 for 2 miles at the state meet - one ran 10:41. This is quite comporable to many states as a proportion of the population. North Dakota has an uncanny number of good runners for its tiny and shrinking population. Ever hear of Andrew Carlson (sub 14:00 multiple times)? He is from Fargo. Beth Hoge? Penny Splichal? Former NCAA Champ Becki Wells from Dickinson? Corey Ihmels? Not to mention former Minot State runner Brad Tighe who won the 5000m at Penn a few years ago and I believe made the Canadian Olympic team.
a 20 year old is not a "teenage"
Whoever said California and Texas didn't have fast runners had to be joking, so I'll just assume it WAS a joke.
As for Razorbacks being native Arkansans ...Daniel Lincoln and Wallace Spearmon come to mind.
As for Hawaii not being a hotbed of speed....perhaps not , but they did have Duncan Macdonald, who first broke Pre's U.S. 5000 record.
Virtually every state produced someone fast, and some small ones (like Maine) produced a surprising number, although offhand I can't think of anyone from Vermont. But even Delaware (Vicki Huber) and Wyoming (Sam Burley) got somebody.

Hence the quotes. Thanks.
I'm still laughing about 'Canada'...
I think in a dual meet, there is no state that Delaware could beat. And in most instances, we'd be 15-50ed.
Canada is easily the best state when it comes to producing runners.
West Virginia is having a hard time producing runners of high quality. This year was a good one though. In the history of the state meet it has only had one runner under 4:16 and none under 9:15. On the chicks side, 2 ever under 11:00 and one under 5:05.00
Just brutal

Alaska, their eskimo furs weigh too much to go fast
Christine Clark, the 2000 Olympic trials marathon winner, was from Alaska.

EVER HEAR OF ALICIA CRAIG??!?
Fighting Sioux,
Brad Tighe was good, no great...but he did not make the Canadian Olympic Team. Brad did go to World Cross Country in 2000 though. Also, Brad is Canadian (Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan), not a North Dakota resident. His brother Mike also won the "B" race at Penn that same year, but again is from Canada, not North Dakota. However, I certainly understand your point that they ran for a North Dakota school. You also forgot Jess Neva...I believe she was from Jamestown and a pretty solid runner. Also a Fighting Sioux like yourself. Good Luck with your upcoming season and I will see you in October.
Ryan Bolton and Sam Burley are from Wyoming.

Jeff Adkins - 8:52
Chris Fox - 8:56
Steve Taylor - 8:59
They certainly would have run under 9:15 at the West Virginia state meet if it had been necessary to win.
How about Hawaii? Whoever heard of a national class track athlete from Hawaii in any event?

You're right. Just two American recordholders -- Duncan McDonald (5,000) and Henry Marsh (steeplechase). Marsh's record still stands.

Don Clary. US ranked in the steeplechase.
excuse me dude, california has way faster runners than any of your states. Look who won footlocker regionals for the west this year, a bunch of californians. Where are all the fast sprinters from LA and Oakland. Cal Poly, Stanford, top programs. Please, California will rock Montana any day.

What about California, New York, Texas, Florida, and Arkansas? Runners from those states are slow.
