Because a Nike contract carries baggage. Young athletes are beginning to understand the negative stigma that goes with a Nike contract.
The most successful distance runner while at Oregon was King Chez and that didn’t lead to a Nike contract.
Chez isn’t marketable like her.
He can’t sell shoes.

Academically Oregon is a meh school. Supposedly Tuohy is in top 20? of her class. Tuohy did NOT perform well in the cold, damp, rainy Oregon NXN today. I predict Stanford as it is warmer, drier, top academically , great XC team. I will be shocked if she picks Oregon, Michigan, NC State.

She is going to follow the Shalane model
and go to Carolina and ñ Milt is going to start locking down the north east recruits big time.

Stanford would be my top choice, especially if I thought there was a chance I wouldn’t turn pro (e.g. I had already been doing high mileage for a few years and I hadn’t improved much). Might as well cash-in the hard work for a valuable degree, especially since they’re still a good running school.
She's down to UVA and Michigan. She has no interest in going west.
Stanford is hard unless you are crazy left. Notre Dame is a better choice for a normal kid.
Hmmm. Let’s see. Being one of the best distance runners in US high school history. Oregon hosting every major championship on your home track. Olympic Trials and NCAA Championships as well as World Championships in 2021. Best facilities in country, Nike in back yard, great coaching, great area to run, great fan support , etc. It seems like a no brainer to me.
In an interview with Runners World yesterday, she said she has visited 5 schools: NC state, Michigan, Providence, Syracuse and Villanova. She said she’s narrowed it down to three of those but declined to say which ones. Oregon’s not on her list, she’s too smart for UO.

Is anyone else surprised those are the 5 schools she visited? NC state and Mich make sense, but the others... idk
Definitely not what I would expect for the most talented xc runner who takes AP classes.
I think if she had been completely in love with a school/team/environment on her visit she would have been able to make a definitive choice rather quickly.
At this point I think NC state might be her best option so she can be part of a solid team, but I definitely expected her to have much better options. Education wise NC state to me is no different than a Washington or oregon, but I guess if she wants to stay on the east coast options are more limited.
What’s wrong with providence and nova ? Both good schools with good programs. Maybe she’s Catholic.
