Guy walks across America in 3.5 months. Original plan was 7.5 months. Seems shady

Looked into his blog posts. the beginning posts are updates on each town he is stopping at, looks like he is averaging 27 to 29 miles per day in the beginning. He mentions staying two nights are a family members house in Ohio, he also had some kind of a health issue in Denver that knocked him out for a couple of days.

He kept a blog on his journey but it is very vague about his travels after the first month. big gaps and very few details. Tried to find glaring mileage gaps and dates. The most glaring thing i could find was he went from Denver on July 25th where he said he would be out for two days then fast forward to August 10th and he is in Shonto, AZ. That means he cover 540 miles from June 27th through August 10th while coming off an illness. Average per day is 38.5 miles while coming off an illness in the height of the summer heat.

Looks very suspicious to me.

I have ran across the country and I have hiked long distances with 40 lbs backpacks.

If he would have done proper, he would have a log from each day. Start point, Finish point mileage. Looks like he kept it vague.

A lot of runners on this forum could run easily 30 miles in a day. But doing that for 3 month is a whole other story. Even without a backpack and a support vehicle.

I call it BS.

Looking at the photos and videos of this geezer during his walk, he doesn't have anywhere near the level of tanning on his face that you would expect for someone that would have spent a lot of time outside.

Put away the pitch forks. No need to kill another with innuendo.

You don't get much sun exposure when you drive through the country.

I'm not a fan of any of these awareness raising stunts but any time someone is collecting funds for a charity via GoFundMe it's a massive red flag.

Call Fake Laz! Get some boots on the ground and find that motor home!

EXACTLY!! straight up fraud and scam

The only reason you ask people not to donate directly to the legitimate charitable organization is to take the money for yourself.

The only legit way to do this is to say, hey, I’m walking across America. If you like the message and the cause then drop a few bucks at this recognized and approved charity which helps vets. Don’t even mention my name.

If he is being economical with the truth he probably justifies it by saying the end, raising money for a worthwhile charity, justifies the means.

Dunno if he has a social media or not, i.e. FB, IG, etc, but get on there and accuse him of cheating and see how you'll be howled down by the SJW's, etc, they'll say what a terrible person you are and what a great fella he is and so on and so on...

With stuff like this, it's pretty common for people to hitch a ride into town, then get dropped off on the other side of town skipping several miles. Do that a 2-3 times per week and you can skip hundreds on miles over an entire trip. Another is they'll pay someone to drive them to the top of mountains (if there's a road), walk down them, then get driven back to top and continue walking. I'm guessing this guy did both. That makes the mileage more believable.

The answer is a lot of people can hike for six hours a day for multiple days in a row. But very few runners could manage the same running.
