Snell didn't have the same "supplements", tracks/shoes or professional support that El Guerrouj had. It is disingenuous to say one was better than the other solely based on time.

As light as one can get...thin is in for a competitive distance runner (who would have thought. Lol).
5 10 , you should be around 135lbs
second the 130-140 comments. lighter is a little too much. and heavier means you have too much muscle or fat.
no more than 125-130

in the science of sports medicine, you want stats, like body weight, limb length, body fat, etc. for each athlete,
as a basic.
in the non competition season, i'd encourage carrying an extra 5 - 7 pounds for health reasons, and only optimize on the weight as the track season comes around.
anyhow, the correct weight is - you do not have any fat to pinch. or 4%

you have different frames, correct.
big boned means of course more weight.
and snell had heavy legs. big rib cage,
for the mile 170 is way too much.
even for the 800 he wanted 165lbs,
which he may have weighted actually at the OG.
Wariner i think was under 150 breaking in, and Johnson's 175 reflects the reality that the best sprinters are much lighter than urban myth states.
a 175 pound sprinter has more muscle mass than a 210 pound dude in other sports. it is all powerful muscles.
elG and coe were 128 ish, implying that the smaller men have the optimal weight.
elG and coe had strong and well developed muscles in the exact right places, one should note.
distance training atrophies even butock, hamsring and quads, calves, through catabolixm and overuse, and coe-elg training methods had the quality in it to keep some key muscle mass in the critical areas.
you are talking only a couple of pounds of beef in the asss and legs.
it is easy to put on this mass with the right training, and this will be recognized, is recognized moving forward.
i said that smaller men, perhaps have an advantage, probably the current theory goes generally.
but that is probably wrong.
smaller guys can play football (soccer) and such, which makes for a bigger talent pool, plus the east africans are often of smaller stature, which contributes to the talent pool.
as soon as a 6 foot 5 distance super star comes around, then you'll see the theory go, you need to be tall (like bolt) to reach the stratosphere,
meanwhile blake at six foot, almost took bolt's records before his roids blew him out.
i have no idea what optimal height would be. somewhere between 5ft3 and 6ft7?
weight is easy, around 4% body fat. end of story.
you must have some muscle in key areas, and never neglect having a bit of size there.
last comment, based on the data, results, the best height for a distance runner 10k appears to be between 5ft4 and 6ft.

but a mottram, if he had his A game at the OG, he would be on the podium.
and yifter came in at 5.3 so 5.25 is not out of the question, is it?
basically if you are a great runner, height does not matter.
and weight is not a limiting factor too,
no fat.
and you have to get rid of useless muscles for the task.

after all said and done, the 90% is the weight for 510 10k optimal on average is the weight of an african elite.
somewhere between 135 and 145 depending on the bones
wider stockier dudes might hit close to 150
i would not want to see anybody go under 130. or even 135

Ryan Hall stated a few times that his worst races were when he was 127lbs.. said he felt weak, tired and miserable at that weight. 137 produced his best results, and said even a little heavier wouldn't have hurt.
