Their company was built on the falsehood that you need to run on a cushiony shoe.
The story that the original Nikes were made on Bowerman's waffle iron is a lie. Knight started his career as an Asics Tiger salesman.
They've now got people arguing about their latest "energy return" nonsense, instead of laughing at it. They were already doing this 30 years ago with the "air" gimmick that made people think they could jump like Jordan.
I must be a lot older than you BW , but your narrative is BS .
I purchased my first pair via an 800 in the late 70s .
Reps would show up at XC camps and sell them out of the back / trunk of their vans / cars .
I did return my first pair for repair .
Nike complied .
They were more road racing flats and I ran XC.
I went to Adiddas Gazelles .
Great shoe and handsome - similar to Cierpinski's at Montreal 76 but heavy and did not take into consideration any difference in pronations .
Went back to Nike in 78/ 79 - yes that 's when he had to make our sneakers last .
Nike won me back .
Work policy , politics ,expansion to other sports etc . - that is another topic .
I love their shoes ..
I bet most young ones here do not know that PK started this as a running shoe company .
I'm off my soapbox now .
Run ( if you can )!!!!
I can't anymore
I did quite the opposite you did after my 3rd pair of Tigers (marathon) , I went Nike Elite (blue and neon yellow) and the Waffle Racers in green and black, loved them until Adidas came up with the Marathon '80.
