How will Webb do at Worlds?

Yeah. I was running somewhere the other day-can't remember where-and Alan busts out of nowhere and he's really hammering. So I'm like, "Why not make it interesting?" He just looks at me and smiles, so we both take off, blaze to the nearest track at like 4:30-4:33 mile pace and complete 3 and 3/4 laps. I had my split at about 3:27.9, his was about 3:25.8. I was like, "Whoa, we just crushed that 15", and he was like, "Yeah, yeah we did."

Webb won't do anything. He's overkill.

While we are sharing Webb encounters...I was doing some 100m strides at the track the other day after a tempo run and I saw none other than baldy himself stroll onto the track. He was no more than 20m away from me and I was watching his every move. He had this very intense look on his face while he was stretching, almost like he was constipated. I dare not walk over and talk to him cause he looked like he was about to get into some serious shit. I just watched the champ at work. Anyways, he proceeds to start mumbling to himself and it was hard to make out, but it sounded like "feel the rythm, feel the ride, get on up...." and then he shouted at the top of his lungs "IT'S 1500m TIME!!!!!!" I started my watch and checked his splits every 100m.....12.9, 12.1, 11.9, 11.2, 10.9, 10.8,.....so on and so forth till he was coming up on the last 300m and it went a little something like this: 9.7, 9.6, 9.6. He stopped, looked down at his watch and screamed "FUCK", threw a hurdle onto the infield, and started sobbing uncontrollably. WHen I walked over and told him how impressed I was he just stared at me for what seemed like 5 mins and replied, "What are you? My mother?" And he walked off muttering obsceneties.

Daniel KipChircir Komen will win the race off a fast pace. Rui Silva or Ivan Heshko could win it off a slow pace. So I think the Kenyans will make it a fast pace and Komen will win followed by Ramzi. Third will be up for grabs and I would give it to Medhi Baala.

What seems to be lost in all of this is that Webb is much stronger than he was last year.

His everyday training pace (easy runs) is at sub 4 minute pace now...3:55 to be exact. Only runner I know that can pull that off.

Ok guys, time to stop posting your jokes about how you saw Webb running sub 4 min miles in training, it's not even remotely amusing, funny, or witty. It's just nobody wanted to have to take the time to tell you guys.

Police,You are just jealous because you weren't around to see the sub 4 minute pace. Not that you would have been able to keep up with us.

I was out on my usual 10 minute per mile 8 mile long run a few weeks back and I ran across Webb on the canal path. It was about 9 at night and dark but I saw him check his watch and after starting at mile marker 7 he proceded to run suicide MILES...up to 8 back to 7 up to 9 back to 7, etc....for my entire 1 hour and twenty minute run. I timed him out when he went from mile 7 to mile 11 and back......entire time = 8 miles in 31:59 flat......i just stopped and stared....webb looked over and muttered something about showing the world and being the first man to win the 1500, 5k, and 10k in beijing......

man is a beast.....

This could be THE race of the championships as there are so many contenders and it should not be an African domination.

Komen looks good but will need another Kenyan to sacrifice himself to make it fast and he does not have the major championship experience of the Europeans - East, Heshko, Silva, etc.

East and Silva have shown good tactical awareness in the past. Baala was so close last time but was that his big chance - home crowd, etc. It would be great for East to medal but he needs to be in the race not hanging around at the back. Also, he may be short of races - only two so far this year.

Ramzi ran well early season last year but faded after the middle of the season. Will he do the same this year?

As for Webb - the topic of this post - this will be part of his learning curve. Apologies to his US fans, but top six would be a big result for him in his first big World level final.

did anyone see how strong Webb was running at the end of his last 1500m?

forget how lagat stopped running and if you can watch the race just watch webb. he looked like he was running that entire last lap, especially the last 2-300m as if he was running the fulll mile.

i think someone mentioned in other threads that to break 3:50 you have to go through 1500 in 3:32.

webb finished the last 1500 very strong in 3:33 low.....

i anticipate a 3:48-3:49 from webb in bislett and for

the world's webb will make it to the final and regardless of who is in it, webb will push the pace after the first 400 and make it one hell of an 1100m race.....

I think that the 1500 will go faster this year because El G isn't in it. Someone is going to go for that title. I don't think the winning time will be much faster than 3:30, but I do think it is going to be a tight race in the last 400 and Webb will get shut down in the last 150, come out on the back of the front pack, a couple of seconds behind the leaders.

Either that or he is DFL in 3:41 or so.

Wouldn't it be great if by some chance another American made the final, that he set the pace to try and pull Webb and the field to a solid time. It really does make me sick that no one goes out and runs fast at these championship races. There has to be someone who had no kick but can run 3:34 to pull everyone else out. Is there no one left with guts?
