I wouldn't be surprised if he retires. If rumors are true that he's not ready for Chicago then I'd put him at less than 50-50 to line up for OTs. And even if he does run this month but subsequently gets injured he'll hang it up after that. He's tied in too closely with Salazar and has never really trained under anyone else--Oregon years? Salazar still probably had a lot of influence. And he still might make it to Tokyo but we'll see.

Galen has been suffering from something similar to a case of "Stockholm Syndrome" for around 15 years now. Alberto is almost his dad/life mentor. Whatever gray-area stuff Alberto did as far as testing on Magness or his real son was done to benefit Galen in the future. Galen probably did anything Alberto told him to do and it is doubtful that Galen even thinks any of it is questionable at all. At this point I'd find it hard to believe Galen will be able to just move-on to a new coach in any capacity. I wouldn't be surprised if he still remains coached by Alberto, just on the "down-low".

People don't care about Rupp, except for those who dislike him extremely. Rupp is a multi-medal olympian (even though his performances have been tainted and fraudulent since he was a child), a non-graduating alumnus of nike's beloved oregon, and yet he is so incredibly bland that even nike won't deign to put him in an ad campaign. Do his parents even like him? He is probably the most internationally obscure olympic medalist imaginable.
He's obviously going to get coached by Pete Julian, everyone calm down.
I'm going to be really interested to see what happens to Rupp the next year. As I've posted elsewhere, I've seen firsthand how close he is to Salzar. Closer even than to his parents. Rupp occupied a position of status higher than every athlete in NOP, even, arguably, Farah. He was Salazar's closest protege, and I cannot think of another coach/athlete relationship that was so integral and vital, akin to the days of Ryun and Timmons, or Snell and Lydiard. Rupp NEEDS Salazar, and if Salazar is indeed a doper as WADA says he is, I cannot see how Rupp can be clean. It explains a great deal about his performance, his behavior off the track, the secrecy.
And assuming he doesn't get dragged down with Salazar in the comings months, without that network, with Salazar there to guide him and provide all the resources he's gotten since a high schooler, it will be very interesting to see how this impacts his performance, or if he'll quickly succumb to injury or fatigue from over training or what have you.

I can't stand Salazar, never took him seriously as a coach, always figured he was cheating, and so was never a fan of Rupp.
However, I still can't say anything bad about Rupp. He's a ballsy runner. He's totally reliable. He may not seem tough to look at, but he always delivers the goods. How much of that is due to unscrupulous tricks from Salazar is hard to say. But I think it's kind of low to really criticize Rupp himself. If you buy into the narrative that Salazar dictated everything from the start, then it's actually quite sad from Rupp's perspective. An overbearing dictator took over his life at age 15. He never had a chance. Is that accurate? I don't know, tbh. But I think Rupp should at least be treated decently as a human being.

Hey guys, ignore the fact that Rupp can't compete against the very best in the world and no one outside of America even cares about a 2:06 guy, but be sure to know he tries really hard and is consistent in a thon. How many people are under 2:06 now? 95 individuals (plus all their additional efforts). Rupp is tied for 102nd all time. It's the new land of marathon obscurity.

Rupp received a hollowed out book in the mail from AlSal with pills inside. And that is something that they actually admitted to so just imagine what else has gone on over the past decade plus.
If Rupp didn't know he was getting doped then he is the stupidest motherfvcker alive.
