In fact, Norwegians are the much better runners than Kenyans (clearly to see from the numbers above). Soon a Norwegian kid will run 3:25 clean, whereas to better 3:33 clean for a Kenyan is impossible.

Ingebrigtsen is not likely to improve much more than another 4 seconds in the 1500m and maybe not more than 2 seconds. We do not know. Nor could we know that he'd improve 8 seconds last year! But he's very likely to run faster with a taper at the end of this season than he has. And he has a lot of room to run faster times at the 3000 and 5000, as well as 800m still.

Dude has run 3:30. How much faster do you think he is going to get? After the huge drop last year, (like 8s) a small amount of improvement is pretty normal. Note the small 2.5s drop the year before last. A lot of people thought his progression was slowing down also.

For reference look at someone like Kiprop (yeah the drugs....). It took a lot of years to go from 3:31 to 3:26.

As far as logic goes, each time you PR you get nearer to your peak.

Yes, because he is faster. I think he still will improve after this season though. Running 3:27 someday would be tough because I don’t think there will be anyone to pull him to that time in a couple years, and his fastest time from running out front isn’t great.

Kip Keino got a gold medal in '68 at high altitude in 3:35 when tracks and shoes were inferior to what they are now. This was before a lot of these drugs/substances were in wide use. To be sure, there was not the depth of great Kenyan and Ethiopian runners as there is now. However, it shows that there have been talented Kenyans for a long time. While some resort to EPO etc., others still probably do well who are clean.

I know VO2max does not tell the entire story. Peter Snell had a larger B.M.I. than most sub-1:45 800m athletes. John Walker's B.M.I. was a large number for a sub-1:45/3:33 800m/1500m runner. In 800m & 1500m we see some larger athletes trading on their 400m speed. Racing on Speed Reserve. We can include Jim Ryun, Duane Solomon, Johnny Gray, Ivo van Damme and Alberto Juantorena in this Speed Reserve group. One cannot Speed Reserve the 5000m & 10000m in the same manner as 800m & 1500m. Jacob Ingebrigtsen is too large to challenge Bekele's 5000m world record. Kilograms in B.M.I. formula matters in 5000m & 10000m races.

Bekele is thick. 5'3 @ 120 ibs puts him at 21.3 on the BMI scale. Jakob is about 6'0 and 160 ibs, which puts him at 21.7 on the BMI scale.

Now list all the sub-12:50 5000m runners who weigh over 155lbs.

Are there any sub 12:50 5000m runners with blond hair?:) I doubt Jakob weighs over 150lbs. A quick google gives 5'11/143 lbs which seems pretty believable and inline with what most 5'10-6'' runners weigh. And he doesn't look super skinny or muscular. But who knows where they got those numbers. They could be copying things from 3 years ago:)
