Do yourself a favor and read his book. Really an amazing man. Dude was running 30k a day as a child, and had no idea that it was not normal.

Not analogous situations, but it seems you view all doping accusations on a level playing field?

In the USATF results posting, it designates Lomong's time as "FR" "PB". What does the FR stand for?

Totally agree. I was in the stands. 13:11 despite misjudging. Likely could have scared 13 flat otherwise. Glad to see him back strong. Huge fan. The 1500 would have been a mistake, but would have loved to have seen that mistake if he had gone ahead with it. Not much different than the Salazar post-race workouts if you think about it. :-)

More than likely. The announcers on NBC clearly said that’s what it stands for. :-) Makes the run even more impressive.

Seems like an awesome person as well as a fantastic runner. Always cheer hard for someone like that. And with each detail about his life story ... yeah, big fan.

absolute unit. reminds me of said ouita...1;43-27:20 vs 1:45-27:30, except lomong seems clean, especially with the 13:05 pb where clean athletes cap out

Should probably be able to run 27 - 27:10 with a 13:05 PB at 5000.Maybe slightly sub 27.

An earlier poster alluded to it, but Lopez triple jumped 43’9 on a few occasions his senior year of high school in addition to his running. There is virtually no crossover in physical characteristics needed to run 27:30 10k vs. triple jumping—really shows what a remarkable all-around athlete Lopez is.

I don't think Salazar ever had anyone doing a workout after a 10k race. Mile or 3k sure, especially early in the season. Maybe even after a 5k. But 10k is enough hard running on its own. Lopez doing the 10k-1500 double would have been awesome, but stupid at the same time.

What a hell of a story.

By the time Lopez arrived in the United States at the age of 16, he had already learned more about tragedy, loss, perseverance, and hope than most people learn in a lifetime. Born in South Sudan in the midst of the Sudanese Civil War, he was kidnapped from his village at the age 6 by a rebel militia. They intended to turn him into a child soldier, but he and three other boys escaped and travelled over 60 miles by foot over three days to the Kenyan border. He spent the next 10 years in a refugee camp, going to school and playing soccer.

Guy made it...but he worked his tail off.

He's great, I prefer Paul, if we are staying in Nike athlete category.

In one of the YT videos he's having a convo with the top 2 runners, like it's a jog for him, plus he kept trying to cut the golf cart off b/c he thought the goal was to outrun the cart.

It inspired me today, and my run will have more purpose as well!
