That picture is pretty obviously taken in 2007 based on Lewandowski's bib. Are you suggesting that Lewandowski is now older than 40?

Kiprop needed a 49 to win, which just isn't gonna happen unless you can run a 45 or 46.

I guess since Poland uses the metric system their people obviously can't convert to imperial

when speaking to an American as that is too difficult. Nor can they even make a stab at it and give a number that is close to the mark. No athlete would ever attempt that. If they tried it would simply fry the neuromuscular system and their career in athletics would suffer a quick and brutal death.

What was Lewandowski's weekly mileage when he was (17 to 20) years old? Posters on letsrun have high mileage bias. An 800m runner from 12 or 13 years old should be doing a lot of speed work, basically training like a 200/400 athlete. An 800m runner should be gradually increasing mileage. You guys found out Coe had some weeks in 1988 and 1989 running 100 miles a week, you guys labeled Coe a fraud. A 32 year old Lewandowski is running more mileage than he did at age 20 does not mean 20 year old 800m runners should be running high mileage.

Listen to the interview I just posted above you. He stated he has always been endurance focused. Your idea you should focus on building speed first doesn't work. You can only improve speed so much, endurance on the other hand takes many many years. Coe for example didn't focus on the 800 till he was over 18. His father had him focus on XC and 3000 meter races as a kid. Peter Coe understood this, that you need to build up strength/endurance first.

You are wrong about S Coe. Coe was during Lydiard type-training as a young teenager. Peter Coe took S Coe away from that. Peter Coe cut the mileage. Peter Coe advocated speed first with cross-training. Run 100 plus miles a week because doing so burns liver fat. Run 100 miles a week because it aides your Marathon performances. Run 100 plus miles a week because your college XC tell you to do so. Run 100 miles plus a week because it keeps you away from psychologists and psychiatrists. Please do not spread the false info that young 800m runners need to run high mileage.

At age of 19 he only ran 10 800 races. Look at the facts. 800, strength beats speed. In his youth he focused on building up his strength. After doing this, it allowed him to fully exploit his speed.
