This is a silly comment to make when you have no idea what state the OP is in. In my state it's completely within the rules to have coaches lead practices during the summer. A quick google shows a lot of other states where this is also the case.

If school's, ot out yet, it's not really summer, is it? Just out-of season but in the school year? Still legal? Either way, just a self-appointed coach 'workings' for free trying to control teenage running in his school district. We all trained unimpeded by such a clown when I was that age.

i think if he ran 530 miles he was sick or especially disciplined after some special track work.
anyway he only had to work 70 minutes a day, plus a long run once a week.

Walker training here is what people need to understand the secret to running. It isn't all this scientific nerd talk that makes good runners. It is a good amount of mileage(as malmo says find your sweet spot, for Walker it was about 90, for you it might be 70 or 110+), a lot of it at a good clip over hills and when it came to sharpening and peaking, he put in the necessary speed work. Also love how Walker isn't the OCD type we often see on here. From the PDF:

An easy run is not a recovery run. They are not the same at all.
A recovery run is a run that takes place after a workout or race and is a way of still getting volume in but not running too fast to prevent RECOVERY from the previous hard run. Some people think it helps healing by getting the blood flow to increase to the muscles but that is a bunch of unproven mumbo jumbo.
An easy run is a typical normal run done at an EASY feeling pace. It can be done everyday without overly taxing the runner to the point where they need a day off, though some runners still should take a day off here or there.
I'd be curious to know what school this is. To have 6-7 women under 19 on one team is very rare and impressive. I think even York HS girls are high-18s to low-20s on average for their state squads. Very rare to have a set of women in the 17s.
