Any runners in Cbus? wrote:
Has anyone here won a 5k without much effort?
Yes, I have mixed feelings about it. Obviously, you sign up for a race, your competitive nature kicks in and you want to win. But I've run a race where I thought there were going to be some good runners, and it turned out that there wasn't. I took off, some people went with me, but after a mile I was by myself. Wound up pulling up and cruising, and still won by three minutes. I didn't like the feeling of being the only "serious" person out there, like there's no pride in beating up on someone well under your weight class. Plus I didn't like that I saw my name in a couple online publications, next to honestly a pretty pedestrian winning time, beating a bunch of casual runners. I could have kept the gas on, but that makes it worse, like other people see that and it looks like some regular guy inserting himself into the special olympics so he can finally win something. Look at race results and every now and then you see that person running a 17 in a small event and smashing everyone, but it's like, join a real competition dude.
